Hey guys I have a 2017 ram 3500 and I’m really wanting to do the wherli custom fab second gen swap kit with the s467.7 charger and I believe it’s a t4 &.90 mount how are these turbos with stock fuel and injectors? I plan on getting a fass when I do this swap but I’m more concerned about the charger I tow skidsteers here and there not everyday but is it a good power/daily/tow turbo?

These engines move so much air you’ll have no problem spinning that turbo on stock fuel. Ran it on my truck before I went bigger.

I’m running a 472 on stock fuel and it still lights quick.

No experience towing. Not in this truck at least

I’ll tell you on stock fuel this charger has way better street manners than I ever thought it would. And I can confirm it does tow like and animal. But if you don’t ever plan on adding more injector I’d go smaller JMO. I bought the 67.7 with plans for 100% overs.
FWIW I had a 2nd gen with a s366/74 .83, full ported head, 7x.0145 injectors with other supporting mods and my current truck has way better drive ability on stock fuel. Minimal smoke and making 20 plus psi at 1700~rpms.
I could only imagine a 363 sxe on this truck.

so it is really worth it then hey? compared to the stock charger on the truck currently. i mean i dont have a problem with the stock one now at all i run the exhaust brake every time to prevent it from seizing up but still i know at some point its going to fail like most do so i was preparing my upgrade option and I'm reallyy thinking about this one so I'm glad to hear that its not a forever spooling turbo from a red light kinda thing.

Did you notice your ego's got a lot lower running a non vgt turbo??
Better fuel mileage at all not that I'm looking for gains just asking

This is my truck after the swap. The sound of a 2nd gen style manifold setup is phenomenally more crisp and toned. I swapped because the stock he351vgt seized up. Did not notice any fuel mileage gains because I’m hard on this truck. I don’t try to calculate mileage. I actually noticed an EGT increase in certain scenarios and a decrease in other scenarios. I do prefer the drive ability after the swap. I’d say the only con is loosing the exhaust brake. And the stock turbo did light a little quicker, it also doesn’t flow 92lbs/min of air.

Man your truck sounds deadly! Your bang on about the sound forsure it does sound way better any Cummins lover would agree! I’ll see about selling my factory turbo this summer to do the swap 🙂! Thanks for all the advice and help appreciate it 🤘🤘

What happened to the Stainless 5-Blade S366SX or S363SX you replaced the 5-Blade s472 with. What could have happened to make you go back to a turbo that you only ran for a few days and pulled it out.

I may have you beat on turbo changes on a single truck though. As much as I love the turbo I am running, there is a well known company that is going to make a custom turbo out of a Garrett 42 series CHRA and either modify a larger compressor wheel to a smaller size or make an entirely new compressor wheel that is quite a bit smaller. They won’t tell me, but they are known for being able to reliably do these kind of turbo mods.

The smallest turbo that can make the HP you want, without blowing hot air and creating excessive EGT’s, is always the best. The G42-1200 I have, will never see 1200hp it is capable of, at least not anytime soon, the GTX4294R was awesome up to 800hp, but looking for 850-900hp. If they do release the turbo I mentioned, which they claim will spool super fast compared to my G42-1200, which I think is pretty good, as is, I would give it a shot.

If Borg ever released a S469SXe or S470SXe, possibly with a smaller 83mm turbine, it would be awesome for the over 850hp daily drivers, that still might want to tow at elevation on occasion. Lighter wheels and dual ball bearings makes for a big difference on Garrett turbo’s.

I am sorry, I read, I just got my .90 A/R turbine on one of the last PM’s. We hadn’t t discussed anything about you going with a different turbine housing for the S472 and assumed you got the S300SX turbo with a .90 A/R. I get so many messages that my box is always full and I am constantly having to delete messages from conversations I am still having. Ironically I had 2 people talking to me at that time about S300 chargers, also.

I apologize, I need to upgrade my account so I can better keep track of the different issues I am following or trying to help with.

I am fairly certain you sent me a pm that said you were happy with your truck, finally. That what matters the most and glad it worked out.

No apology necessary. Yah I run into the same problem with my inbox. I would gladly upgrade my membership if it meant this website would operate faster.

But that’s another can of worms.

I’d still like to try a 300 series one day. Just so I can finally close that chapter.

How does it run with the 472sxe? At what rpm it starts to boost? I have the same turbo but didn't have time to finish my built. I have 137% over with a dual cp3 kit.

It's a blast to drive. It is a bit doggy at low rpms and it'll smoke pretty bad if I get into the throttle at too low of rpms. It starts to build boost around 1300rpm. By 2200rpm I'm at 40+psi if im hard on the throttle. The most I've seen is about 50psi. But I've been having some surging with the dual cp3 pumps. The frp bounces between 18k and 27k. I did replace the duramax regulator with a oem Cummins one and it got better but isnt gone yet. Waiting for the roads to be clear of all the ice so I can take some logs and send them to my tuner and see where I need to do from there. I'm thinking the 137٪ injectors will help with the spooling but will be very smokey at low rpms.

Ok,I have a fleece dual cp3 kit, with a second cp3 from a cummins, with the control box. I hope everything goes well with that.
Here too we have lots of snow and ice so I won't datalog before mid mars at least. I have a couple of things to finish before so it gives me lots of time to do it. Hahaha.
So it starts to build boost at 1300rpm that's way before I thought. I was thinking it would start around 1800 2000rpms

Thanks for the info

If nothing else works I've heard great things about the fish control box. I've heard good things about them. I haven't driven it much this winter. Without the drid heater it's a pain to start it if its under 10*F. And living in north central north Dakota that doesnt happen very often.

#17 ·
Why did you remove it?
I wanted to do the same but I couldn't go a winter without my truck and the gain for the money spent for a heater relocate is not good.

I have 2 vehicles so I dont mind not driving the truck in the winter. I have a smeding diesel intake horn and could install a ford heater plug if I wanted to. Would just have to drill and tap the the intake. I did the grid heater delete and the intake horn when I was still on the stock turbo. And it was definitely worth the upgrade. It spooled up alot faster and egts dropped maybe 100*.

On mine? Yes. It's a 4" downpipe into a 5" exhaust with no muffler
