Truth about NEW Edge w/ Attitude Products

My programmer Edge w/ Attitude that was purchased and manufactured in 2006 died (bummed)! I liked my programmer...I called Edge and they offer a customer loyalty discount for a new programmer, which is a pretty good deal. I asked the Rep what differences or limitations would I find in the new programmers. He told me the differences are in the aesthetics and the way the programmers are constructed (no epoxy which allows the units to be worked on if they fail). Rep says I will see no differences in how it operates my truck...just a ton more options.

I know the EPA came in and hammered these companies with restrictions of some sort. So what are the differences? What will I not be able to do with the new programmer?

You shouldn't have any issues as your pre emissions. Which monitor do they provide with the attitude now, CTS2?

You may want to look at EFI live and do some searching on here to see what others have noticed going from Edge to EFI tuning.

The truth is you should upgrade to EFI live and never look back! You will not believe the difference between box and custom tunes.

DJ thanks for the suggestion the EFI live stuff looks involved and expensive. Saw a lot of folks at the track generating a ton of HP and some quick times. So my truck is my commuter and huntin rig. I'm looking for occasional towing performance (pulling boat and travel trailer) and the best fuel economy possible. I was getting 17 to 18 mpg with 35 inch tires and was very happy. Edge vs. EFI live...your thoughts?

Honestly for what you want EFI tuning will still be better. Whatever you get from Edge is what you get, even if you don't like a certain thing about the tune. With EFI, if you want a change for your particular setup and needs it can be done easily. You could buy the Edge setup and use it for now. If you decide to go EFI you can still use the CTS2 to monitor with EFI. You'll be out some money for the attitude parts though.

MM3 is also another tuning platform option worth researching.

Whether or not the cost is worth it is up to you. The payback is LONG especially for you as the 5.9 gets decent mileage in the first place.

Hows the trans in your truck? Stock?

Not DJ but I can answer a little of that. How much is a juice with attitude? EFI will set you back around 700 plus 75 for the switch tunes on the fly cable. You dont get the monitoring of the CTS but the tunes are superior, and if there is a trait you don't like it can be tuned out of something you want improved it can be added. Anything you change on the truck can be tuned for. I would caution against the hotter tunes with a stock transmission though.

while EFI is ok, i'd choose to go MM3 or Raceme, as you can have "box" tunes with the race me and custom tunes. or with the MM3 you have to have custom tunes.
in my 04 i had smarty's, and now it's an Edge JWA, and it's been great. i really like the switch on the fly, it's the older CTS, but still good option. for that truck the Edge is the best for me, Aside from HP tunes, but it's more cash.

If you were happy with the edge, get it again. i would for my 04 in a hear beat.
Might ask the Edge people. if the tuning has changed and how so? as you really liked your old one.

The edge CTS2 is going to run me 700 bones. My transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago and its not stock, but not super modified either. I have some billet hardware, transco shift kit, low stall and a stage 3 converter (don't remember what kind). So its somewhere above stock and below being tricked out. Looks like I have go look at the MME and Raceme options as well. Thanks for all the input!

For that much of an investment go with the Smarty Touch and the better box tunes of the Smarty, you don't need Race ME and MM3 will require buying tunes. With the Smarty Touch you will have 8 tunes to play with and adjust-ability on them. When you want to go custom tunes and switch on the fly get the license for UDC Pro and the comm mod and you will have all you will ever need to break things, on the fly. ;)
