TPMS issues gone after swap

After only 18000 miles , my firestones were down to the mileage bars, so I decided to put on 4 new Michelin Defenders. Went to my preferred, Performance Plus in Long Beach, $ 1,080 dollars later I am driving out with 4 new tires, 2 scratched wheels, and my TPMS sensors not throwing a light with 58lbs in the front tires???

I was so upset about scratching :banghead: (its a gouge and aint polishing out) my Longhorn wheels, that I didnt notice the TPMS not giving a light as they put 58 in front and like 80 in the rears.

After a week or so I went back to ask about the sensors. They told me that they use the OEM Sensors and that they "re-program" them?? I asked to what spec as now I do not know when the light will come on and couldnt get a number out of them? I have no idiot lights, so has anyone else experienced this as I paid attention to the "Re-Program the truck at the dealer TPMS thread" and I know they never plugged into my truck at the tire store. :spank:

Short of letting out air until the light goes on guess I wont know. :nadkick:

OK, Ltngdrvr I just looked and I was completely wrong, you are correct the door actually does say 60/80. But was set from the factory for the low light to come on at 65 on all 4 corners as thats what I have experienced since day 1. The day I drove it off the lot it was 80 all the way around. I lowered them to just above where the light would stay out, so like 68 for all 4. The tire guys set the pressures like the door jamb says and did something different with the sensors themselves.
I've left it at 65 in the fronts 68 in the rears as it seems to ride/drive the best for me around there.

i would take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Or, better yet, take it to a dealer who can set the alarm pressures to exactly what you want them to be, regardless of the door sticker.

Heck I have no sensors and it took about a week for me to get a light........

For some reason, the geniuses at the dealership decided they were going to put 80psi in my 3500's front tires during PDI. By the time I got home on the 100+ degree day, the tires were over 95psi. The TPMS system said nothing. My 2500 used to complain closer to 55psi, but never noticed if they'd complain with too much pressure.

I'm also shocked you got 18k out of the stock tires!

The TPMS warning light and pressure threshold is not set based on the TPMS sensors in the wheel. The threshold setting is in the BCM not in the sensor itself. All the sensor will do is notify the on board computer of the pressure in each tire. The truck will only throw the error light if the pressure in the tire is below the BCM threshold setting. 58psi up front will not cause the light to come on.

They are set at a 20% allowed lower PSI. So the fronts allow 49 and the rears 65. Can't change that.

There is a way to reprogram your RHF tire sensors for the BCM to read. Been done just look for the huge thread on tpms turn the light off.. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/2013-general-discussion/1670642-how-set-tpms-any-pressure.html
I had my BCM changed to 50psi all the way around and can go up as far as you want. The second step in the process on which the dealer can no longer do is reprogramming the RHF sensor threshold. You have to find someone with the old Witech code or the other programmer I can't recall right now starts with an A and have your vehicle pin to allow the change.

and you will have to take it back up to 60 or more to get the warning to go off.
