I'll be towing my toyhauler for the first time this weekend with this truck(just got it & the trailer). Trailer weighs about 5500#'s empty. Do you guys tow with the overdrive or in tow/haul mode. I figured if the highway was level ground, I'd overdrive it, and tow/haul with any grade. What do ya think???

Well I am not for sure on the 04.5 tranny workings, but my 06 has the tow/haul and then a second OD button. I tow about 9000lbs and usually leave it in tow/haul and have never used the OD off.

The advice that I got was watch the RPM and if you need to take it out to get them up a little go ahead so you are not lugging it, and for sure if the tranny starts "hunting" for a gear take it out. The "hunting" for the gear will heat up the tranny fast towing.

leaving it in the T/H will help slow you down also. by locking up the TC in the trans.

I use my 2004.5 CTD to tow my 31' trailer which weighs loaded about 10K. I use the tow haul mode when in traffic and going up and down the hills. When cruising down the freeway at 65, I use the overdrive. So far after 15,000 miles it has worked great.:peelout

Thanks for the replies. I did exactlly that, tow haul in the hills and when it was somewhat flat, overdrive. Worked out good
