Hey guys, ive searched on here and read alot of the threads but really didnt find what i was looking for. Ive got a 03 3500 single wheel 4 door short bed with a 6 speed. BD super b turbo, afe elbo, grid delete, 5in exhaust, southbend dd clutch, gauges, etc. I just bought a smarty s06 and was reading alot about stacking with the mp8. So i purchased one and just waiting for it to show up. My question is how would i set the smarty up. Its the so6 with the REVO software. It has the torque managment settings, RP, Injection timing, etc. Ts said to run the smarty with timing added. So what would i need to set parameters on the smarty too? Saw some guys saying the RP1 setting but i havent saw any info on what to set the timing at. Im use to fooling with 6.0, 6.4, 6.7 fords so im new to the dodge game. I guess i should introduce my self. Ive been on here for years but never have made a post. My name is Chase Evans and im from Northwest La around Shreverport area. Please help me out here guys. Thanks a lot

I wouldnt recommend stacking. Smarty already can increase the RP which the MP8 is doing the same. They run off different timings as all programmers do so you have to watch stacking(dont think MP8 does tho).

RP kills injectors and stock ones even worse. So id just run the smarty on RP 2 max if you want more.

I wouldn't recommend stacking either. I was stacking the smarty with a power puck and was popping injectors like crazy. Those things aren't cheap and neither was the turbo I ruined with oil/diesel running through the bearing. Lol. I know there are lots of guys stacking the MP8 with the smarty and it's working. If you have the slush fund to fix it if it breaks, do it up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when stacking with a smarty. The second box is the timing control box, and the Smarty handles the rest. So set the Smarty to a level with no timing advance. And let the stacked chip take care of that part.

Id just use the smarty timing. There's a reason 05 and below all use smarty, its the best thing we can get, and then UDC to get the best custom for smarty.

Stacking = trouble IMHO. If you want to run both, then use smarty on a 0 timing SW and the other for timing. BUT WATCH, default does not mean stock timing, it means "stock" timing to that tune(SW), understand?.

Do yall think the innovative diesel custom tuning will be better than the stack? Woosley?
Custom tuning will destroy any plug and play anything.

I had that stack but it was messing up my RP gauge reading on my Insight. I have too much invested in my Insight to not be able to read RP or buy another gauge so I sold the MP8. I didn't run the stack long, but I had the Smarty on level 3 or 5, RP 1 (stock) and timing 3. With a pressure box, you don't want to blindly run without a RP gauge. Get an Isopro RP gauge and plug it in before the MP8 to get the correct reading. The safest bet though is to go with UDC.

I've tried it. Waste of time IMO. A good tune has much more going on than just cranking up the pressure and changing the timing a given amount. A custom tune can be had for what you can sell your MP8 for, and you'll go faster, with less stress on your injectors.

Let me know where you can get a good customs tune for $150? I'll buy that right now. That's the going price for a used mp-8.

I ran it years ago and it would pull hard on the topend. I ran it with stock injectors, turbo and cp3. I ran TNT #7 with default timing, mild RP and stock tq mgt. I kept the mp-8 off until I needed it. Then I would just twist it to 100%. I will say I dyno'd 528/1089 with that setup back in 2009. It's not something you want to keep on all the time. I'd rather have UDC tuning but since you just bought it, try it out. The 04.5-07 trucks seemed to like that setup. They early 03/04's didn't from my readings back in 2008 when I got mine

An 03 is gonna benefit alot more from a pressure bix, since they run so much lower, when compared to the 600 series motors. A standard Smarty is not going to give that much pressure, compared to what a stricly psi box can do. I recomend you invest in a rail pressure gauge before you get to playing with it too much, and be VERY careful when lifting the throttle while the mp8 is turned up.

You also have to make sure you hook the RP gauge in correctly since the pressure box is piggy backed to the RP sensor and then you piggy back the RP gauge to the mp-8. If you hook it up wrong you'll get a bad reading. There's an order they go in, can't remember it off the top of my head.

Don't use the Insight to read RP with the MP8. The MP8 fools the ECM which is what the Insight reads. Been there, done that. I sold my MP8 for that reason and will one day get UDC. A whole lot safer than any stack.

Stackings old school, and worked, back before there was a more controllable option like UDC, or even SSR for that matter. For the ability to choose between clean, tow, and power, its hard not to choose UDC now that its available, and that you have can have tuning options with it. Its not just a off and kill kinda programming setup anymore. If only EFI would get off their smugness throne and help us guys out, or atleast throw us a bone.....
