Security System

Hey everyone, I am having issues with the security system on a 2003 Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. Sorry if this is long winded but its a bit of a backstory.

So, about 3 weeks ago I replaced the ignition cylinder as it was very sticky. (This truck does not have programmable keys they are the black ones.) The truck started and ran fine for about 2 weeks. Earlier this week someone locked the doors and I had stupidly misplaced the original keys so I couldn't unlock the front door. Luckily its a Dodge so one of the back doors didn't lock and I was able to get in that way. Once I got in the alarm started going off (which makes sense). I found the original keys and tried unlocking and locking the doors to get the alarm system to turn off but it wouldn't shut off. I hooked a scanner up and there was no codes and nothing to indicate something was wrong with the alarm system. After researching and trying some of the hacks that have been previously posted like disconnecting the battery, holding the cables together to reset the modules and when I hook them back up it is fine but as soon as I get in and turn the key on the alarm starts going off again.

Now the weird part. Unlike when you usually trip the alarm system, I can still start and drive the truck perfectly normal, the alarm system will just keep going off as I am driving and the red security light just blinks every 2-3 seconds. Currently I have to disconnect the battery otherwise the alarm will just keep going off.

I ended up taking it to the local Dodge dealer to hopefully have them reset the SKIM module but they were unable to access anything as the truck is too old for their equipment and told me that there isn't anything they can do. I also had them run the VIN hoping this truck originally came with a key FOB (doesn't have one currently) so I would be able to order and program a new one but it did not. Ended up driving the truck back to the farm and now here I am writing this post

I am at a bit of a loss here. It is almost seeming like something went horribly wrong with the ECM but I really don't know. So does that mean I will have to just replaced the SKIM module and/or ECM? Anyone else had this issue? It is a bit of a peculiar one but any advise or tips would be appreciated. Sorry this post is all over the place with information.

EDIT
Got a guy to come program a key fob as I found out that it did come with one from the factory (shouldn’t have trusted the dealers word lol) and that fixed my issue thanks for all the help!

Could try a reset. Turn the ignition to the ON position (without starting) for 10 minutes until the security light stops blinking to reset the system. Inspect fuse 19, 20A, in the IPM module located under the hood. It supplies power to the security module. Ensure it is not blown.

So this 2003 truck has power door locks and power windows and originally had remote entry Fobs?
Does it have a key cylinder on the passenger side front door handle?

I don't think a 2003-04.5 truck that had manual door locks and manual windows could have the factory security system.

Normally when the security alarm is triggered, you need to use the Fob to disarm it.

I "think" you can disarm it using the key in the driver's side door.
There is a switch/sensor in the driver's side door key cylinder to provide this function.

There was a member with a similar issue. No Fobs and couldn't get the alarm to deactivate.
It was the switch/sensor in the driver's door key cylinder assembly that was failing.

Lol... I trust a dealership.. right after I verify everything they have told me!

Since it's just a farm truck, you could just unplug the horns for now. Driver's side behind the front bumper.

The remote keyless entry feature would be standard if the truck was an SLT or Laramie trim.

It makes sense that the truck originally had remote keyless fobs since it doesn't have a passenger door key lock.

Now you have more research to do and more options to resolve the alarm issue with the truck. :)

Ahh yes perfect this is an SLT truck. I talked to a guy who does key programming and he had said if it came factory with a fob he can order and program one so that’s great news.
Thanks for the help I do appreciate it I will take a look at the lock cylinder in the door and get a fob ordered and programmed and hopefully that should solve the issue. I will be back if it doesn’t haha
