Running without sway bars

I'm gearing up to install a 4" left on my 2014 Ram 2500 this weekend and was wondering what others thought about running without the sway bar. I know it will have more body roll on the road, but I like the idea of more articulation and it seems it would ride smoother on the road as I hit bumps and such. Is there risk of wearing parts faster by doing this? Any reason not to do it? I figure if I don't like it, it would be ready enough to reinstall the sway bar later.

Running without one shouldn't wear any parts faster. The one thing that will be a negative would be the handling at speed.

I've been driving without a sway bar on my 2nd gen, and I love it. I don't know how the 14' would be exactly since we have very different trucks, but it did smooth out my ride on the road.

Try it, get used to how the truck handles in a swerving motion and decide from there.

I would rather put a torsion sway bar on my truck, but for the 2nd gen they are super pricey. For a newer truck, I would hands down down throw one on.

I am in the peocess of making the same decision as i install a carli 2,5 suspension on my 2005. AFAICT the only issues are morebody roll when towing and also with agressive cornering. Other then that, it is a major factor in improving the ride quality. Thuren makes a torsion sway bar that has an easily removable bar to it. The great thing is that you could install your lift systwm as is, see how you like it, then fairly easily remove the oem bar and see if you like it handlrs with your particular drivung style and then leave it off or put it back on at no cost and minimal work.
All rhat being said, if you tow alot, you probably want to keep the oem sway bar.

On the late model trucks with coil sprung rears, I don't recommend running without a sway bar. The rear leaf springs fight off a lot of body roll. I run without a sway bar on my 07, but I wouldn't do the same on a new truck. If you want to free up the front some, get a torsion sway bar, but don't run with nothing.

I run without a sway bar on my 04. Love the way it rides now. When I tie heavy I just bolt my stock bar back on. If I had cash I'd have a torsion sway bar for sure though.

14' 3500

Take my opinion with a grain of salt as my truck is a 14 3500 with rear leafs.

I took my sway bar off @ 1k miles and have 55k now. I have been in a couple of emergency situations @ highways speed with requiring hard braking and steering. Stable as can be.

I tow up to about 8500lbs. No issues.

Wife drives my truck on occasion

Ride quality increase on MY truck was worth it.

Situation may be completely different with rear coils, I just don't know!

Well I'm a couple years late to this post but boy boy am I glad I read it. I'm taking my sway bars off as soon as I'm off work today. Anything to make this ride better. My lower back literally can't take it anymore and if you're saying that you've been OK in Squirrley situations Then OK works for me cause I'm never in that situation. I guess I'll find out when that day comes maybe I'll go out in a parking lot and jerk the thing around a little bit

While I wait for my Thuren parts to get here, I took mine off a week ago. It's crazy how much better the ride is on a stock truck It only takes 15 minutes or so to take off. Give it a try.

I will be ordering Thuren's torsion bar eventually, but I'm in no hurry.

So far I've run for a couple days without the front and rear sway bars. I love it! It is a bit squishy around corners, but honestly not as much as I was thinking it was going to be. I can't compare to lifted (with sway bars) because I just left them off when I installed my lift, but I think it is very reasonable to handle and I love the way it performs. A good example is a "Y" shaped drainage ditch in a road in front of my house. My left wheel can go over the two dips while my right tire goes over an opposite-timed single dip. Overall very, very smooth. I don't even feel the transition between my driveway and the road any more.

I have an 06 mega with a 10" suspension lift that was done before I owned the truck. Everything looks very nicely done, but they had to remove the front sway bar to make room for steering stabilizers and a hydraulic assist. I am going to try to put mine back on to alleviate some body roll and gain some cornering back.

I just took mine off my 07 2500 with 6" lift. I was getting ready to drop some serious money on front end parts before seeing this. I am glad I tried it because it made a massive difference for me.

I just re-installed the Carli torsion sway bar back on my '06 yesterday. Drove many thousands of miles without a sway bar and felt it really did need it. Helps to control the live axle as it hits opposing bumps/ruts etc. without jerking the steering wheel around. Not so much difference between the torsion sway bar and none at all far as ride. Now the stock sway bar, that thing has the front axle nearly married directly to the frame. Makes for a pretty harsh ride. On the new trucks, no idea there as I have never driven a new truck.

When I had the Thuren soft ride suspension installed include the front Thuren sway bar, I removed the rear sway bar. Drove it north on the 5 through the grape vine and it was a real eye opener. The big turns at speed was not fun. When I got home I put it back on. CJC says the 14+ needs rear sway bar and I agree.
