I’ve been following this thread on this rocker arm galling and I’m not ashamed to say I have no knowledge of this terminology nor how to tell if it’s present. I’d like to be educated on this to include how to determine, symptoms and repair procedures if indeed it has to be done at some point. After reading all the comments on things that can go wrong on these supposedly bulletproof 5.9 if taken care of properly I guess I’ve been lucky, blessed etc that nothing serious has ever gone wrong.

The www.shopcummins.com website is sorta back up and running.
It looks like they made changes or upgrades to it.
Many of the previous links posted in this thread no longer work.

For the 6.7L Cummins rockers, search on p/n 4995602. Watch the US/Canada pricing toggle on the top right of the page.

The good news is that the rockers still show on sale for US$81.44, Cdn$115.65 each pair.

Any idea why they’re on clearance right now?

When is the last time you checked your valve clearances?

If it's been a while you can easily check your rocker arms at the same time.
There are tons of threads on this issue plus info and pics on this thread.
There are numerous threads on setting your valve clearances.

With these old trucks, you will likely need a new upper valve cover O-ring type gasket and new rubber bolt grommets.

Not sure.
Taking a guess, I suspect that Cummins will stop supplying them since the 2019+ 6.7L rockers are different (non-adjustable).
Plus there are tons of aftermarket options for these.

It was another member that posted the link to the Cummins sale a few weeks ago.
Thanks to that member, I think it was @Alcharger!

I can't take credit. I forget who and where is that post. I'm spreading the word to help others save a few $$.

I adjusted them at 110k, about 10 years ago. It now has 170k

Appreciated the link however I did not need the info on adjusting, I was merely looking for details on the galling. Not everyone on this forum knows it all and that includes myself. Never heard of it until this thread.

Sorry, no offense intended. I definitely do not know it all either.. Ask my wife!

No apology needed, I wasn’t offended in the least. I read my post to make sure it was clear in my request and I believe it was. I think I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve turned wrenches and built many small block chevys in my younger years ( 70s) but these engines are a different breed. I don’t get on this forum often because it stresses me out reading all the things that can go wrong and then I start thinking damn when is this or that going to break etc. seriously thinking of letting this truck go because it doesn’t get used anymore like it should. Maybe time to get a hot rod again.

I cleaned up the old rockers today.

5 of the caps fell off during disassembly.

#2 intake was the stiffest of the litter. I had to tap the trunnion out.

Here are some pics on #2 intake.

Again, thanks to this forum I caught this before I was down on the side of the road. The new ones should be good for the rest of the life of the truck.

My new 6.7L rockers arrived overnite from Cummins.

My original 2004.5 rockers are at the top of both pictures.

Made in India as my originals... siiiiigh... I'm sure the Hamiltons and PRW's are made offshore also.

There are only 2 differences I can see in the new 6.7L rockers. The 2 weaknesses addressed.

1. Steel pivot, no plastic holders.
2. The 2 extra oil grooves in the trunnions.

I wanted to thank both of you for posting these pictures. These were really a big part of what pushed me to order a set of the 6.7L rockers today. I also didn’t want to miss out on the clearance price or have them sell out of stock.

Lol, great minds think alike! That would be a great combo.

I've been looking at my new 6.7L Cummins rockers and been thinking that adding upgraded and coated trunnions to the new rockers would be a good and cost effective way to go.

This would be identical to your Fleece rockers and Manton trunnions combo and would be identical to the Hamilton cams rocker arm kit.

So where are we at:

  • PRW rockers (back ordered), bronze bushings. US$550. I still like these.
  • OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers, uncoated trunnions. US$480 on sale. Really good value. Really all I need.
  • Hamilton rocker arm kit. DLC coated trunnions and studs. US$900.

- OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers on sale (US$480) plus the Hamilton DLC trunnions US$200 = US$680.

-OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers on sale (US$480) plus the PRW bronze bushing trunnion kit (US$112) = US$592.
What advantage do the Hamilton DLC trunnions have over the ones that come with the stock 6.7L rockers?

I just ordered the 6.7L rockers and if there is a big advantage to the upgraded trunnions then I’d like to consider the option.

The new update 6.7 rocker arms, Have addressed the trunnion oil problem. No need to upgrade the trunnions.

No galling with my trunnions at 200k. I’ve ran rotella and delvac for the last 50k with a bottle of zinc additive for the heavier 103# valve springs. Unless you’re hot shotting the truck with 75k+ miles a year, I don’t know if upgraded trunnions are really worth the cost. The rest of the truck is probably going to fall apart before you get your money back.

I have run the same brands of oil too. Makes me wonder if the first owner, woman who only DD, and my DD slugged up the oil.

Since running HS Stiction Elimination the truck sounds different, quieter.

Glad your rockers are good.

Alcharger how much HS Stiction Elimination are you adding, for a oil change?

1 quart SE on the last 2 oil changes.

I put 3/4 quart in our old Honda, 09. My wife came in after dricing and asked what did I do to it. 09 Honda 2.4s were prone to use oil. We never had that issue. I thought it couldn't hurt...

Thanks for the link Stealth.
I just ordered a set of 6. I figured that since I have now 2 2006 megacabs & 1 6.7 to build, I better get on it with 38% off MSRP.
I still have 5 of 6 sets off the 6.7 I got for rebuild. 1 set went on the old 5.9 when the plastic tips broke off.
Next on the list is to contact Rob at Cutterup & get the 6.7 build going.

I got mine done today. The first 8 pictures are of the old rockers and the last picture is of the new trunion that came with the new sets. I didn’t have any plastic keepers on mine (pictured above). I set the valve lash .010 intake and .020 exhaust. I was really worried about getting to cylinder 6, but it went surprisingly well.

How do the top of pushrod & pushrod cups on rockers look? Did you put any assembly lube on pushrod top & cup before assembly?

Just got a email from Cummins & mine will be here tomorrow. Free delivery to my door from Edmonton.

They will stay boxed up awaiting the 6.7 build coming shortly. I just couldn’t pass them up for the cost at 38% below MRSP
