I cleaned up the old rockers today.

5 of the caps fell off during disassembly.

#2 intake was the stiffest of the litter. I had to tap the trunnion out.

Here are some pics on #2 intake.

Again, thanks to this forum I caught this before I was down on the side of the road. The new ones should be good for the rest of the life of the truck.

[/QUOTE Good thing you changed them. That's very galled up.

What valve springs are you running in your built engine?
Stealth, Fellow Albertan with a quick question. are you running conventional or synthetic oil in your 5.9? just curious if that may affect the rocker arm wear that is showing up.

It would be interesting to see how mine looks, motor has lived its life on synthetics, amsoil early on for a short time and royal purple there after. Next time i adjust valves i will pull one off for a look.

Some info found on the bronze bushings ...

Fleece performance also has there own rocker arms. They don't show the rocker arm trunnions. Have to phone them and ask. There on sale. Fleece Performance OE Replacement Rocker Arm Assembly for 5.9L/6.7L Cummins Engines Fleece Performance Engineering, Inc.: Innovating Diesel Performance

I don't think those Fleece OE replacement rockers are anything special. Just plain jane non-Cummins 6.7L rockers like many out there.

I do agree that coated, improved trunnions are superior but man, the Fleece coated trunnions are pricey (US$466).

The Manton coated trunnions, US$500.

Hamiliton coated trunnions, US$200).

Usually what's on sale!

Mostly Rotella T4 conventional 15W-40 for the entire time since I bought it new. Never any additives.
120,000 miles, most of it towing our 10k lbs 5th wheel all summer.
Never extended oil changes. Stiffer 95lb valve springs, stock cam, 50PSI peak boost for 10+ years.

Much different history than Steve's 500, 000mile truck, much different than AlCharger's 250,000 mile truck.

As I mentioned earlier, the 2003-07 5.9L rockers are a poor design from lack of oil flow to the trunnions.
I don't think synthetic oil or additives will help the galling issue.

At your mileage be prepared for the end cap to fall off when removing.

It's not if but how much they have galled at 500k.

You might get a bump in FE as well. My CTD runs quieter and smoother since changing.

What engine oil, type and viscosity, have you been running in your truck over the years? Any additives?

Well if the end cap is going to fall off then new ones should he in hand for a swap.

Mine were galled, not to bad, with only 65,000 miles. And I was changing oil every 5000 KM or 3106 miles. Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 Motor Oil. K&N Wrench-Off Oil Filter. No additives. For my new engine build, I have Driven Racing Oil DBR Conventional 15W-40 Diesel Break-In Oil. And a Wix 57620 Oil Filter. After break in, all switch to Driven Racing Oil Semi-Synthetic DR40 15W-40 Turbo Diesel Motor Oil or Shell Rotella T6 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil, this is easier to get. And a Wix 57620XP Oil Filter. Shouldn't need any additives?

I have not been consistant on the brand, Rotela 15 40 syn most often. I'm consistant on changing oil and filter every 10k.

Started Stiction Eliminator 18k ago. It's on its second treatment. Next treatment 32k from now.

I believe SE may help prevent oil sludge in the small holes in the lifters. I stuck a wire in the small passages and pushed oil out. This was after soaking the parts on gas....

X2, might as well swap them in and enjoy the FE and quieter, smoother running CTD.

When I lifted the oem lifters, 2 caps feel off. When cleaning them up for inspection, 3 more were in the box...

The fleece rocker arms, will work for me. $856.75CND for 6. They have the metal caps, and use my Manton trunnions.

Lol, great minds think alike! That would be a great combo.

I've been looking at my new 6.7L Cummins rockers and been thinking that adding upgraded and coated trunnions to the new rockers would be a good and cost effective way to go.

This would be identical to your Fleece rockers and Manton trunnions combo and would be identical to the Hamilton cams rocker arm kit.

So where are we at:

  • PRW rockers (back ordered), bronze bushings. US$550. I still like these.
  • OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers, uncoated trunnions. US$480 on sale. Really good value. Really all I need.
  • Hamilton rocker arm kit. DLC coated trunnions and studs. US$900.

- OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers on sale (US$480) plus the Hamilton DLC trunnions US$200 = US$680.

-OEM Cummins 6.7L rockers on sale (US$480) plus the PRW bronze bushing trunnion kit (US$112) = US$592.

I think Alcharger posted the link to www.shopCummins.com a few weeks ago, that showed the 6.7L rockers on sale.
They were on sale for US$82each, CAD$116 each. That's what he and others ordered.
I ordered them eariler this week. They were overnited to my local Cummins shop, free shipping.
It is a really good deal for OEM 6.7L Cummins rockers. The regular price was CAD$186 each.

Darn, the shopCummins website is down at the moment...

Well my PRW rocker order was cancelled as PRW has no ETA for stock.

Luckily the Cummins 6.7 rockers (p/n 4995602) are still on sale (US$82/Cdn$116 each) and in stock.
I ordered those.. Free shipping to my local Cummins shop for pick up.

I'm sure the Hamilton rockers are better but not worth twice the price for a mild engine like mine.

I ordered a Firepunk engine lifting bracket. $80.00 US, $52.11 US via UPS Standard, total $132.11 US, total in CND $185.71 Then UPS added a $50.20 CND Brokerage Fee. It ended up costing me $235.91 CND.

I think you stated that you live in or near Wasa, B.C. It is beautiful there by the way!

Have you ever heard of www.montanashipping.com?

They have 2 stores/warehouses in Montana. 1 in Sweetgrass which most Albertans use and 1 in Eureka, just over the border south of Roosville, just south of Fernie. About 1.5Hrs from Wasa.

You can ship items cheaply to their warehouse, they charge very little to accept your package.
You go pick it up and just pay GST at the border, no duty on US items.
Officially there is duty on non-US manufactured products but they rarely check.
You will need a Passport to get across the border.
To make it worthwhile, you have to order and pick up several things at once.

It's been years since I used them at Sweetgrass or Eureka thanks to the low Canadian dollar and I mostly shop on Amazon Canada now.
Worth looking into.

I don't order to many parts from the USA, some parts that are not sold in Canada, I will order. I can't cross the border into the USA. I'll end up in jail.

I order a lot from RockAuto and never had to pay Brokerage Fees. They use Fedex for shipping. UPS is a ripoff shipping company, when it comes to shipping to Canada.
