Puck Plug Removal

Probably a dumb question, but my truck is 150 miles away, and I need to finish a discussion tomorrow....

My RAM is supposed to be "tow prepped". There are five plastic plugs mounted in the bed. I'm looking at fifth-wheel hitches at an RV Show this weekend, and I've never pulled out those plugs to see what I need to do....

First question: How do you remove the puck "plugs"? My son tried, with me giving over the phone directions, but was unsuccessful. He twisted, pried (a little) and did everything but crawl underneath.

Second question: Once the plugs are removed, what else has to be done to accept either the RAM/Reese picture frame or the B&W RAM mount on the four corner holes?

Third question: What about the center gooseneck hole? What needs to be done there to accept the B&W reversing ball, so that I can consider the B&W Companion Slider?

Thank you for any help!!!!

I think your limited to using only reese elite products. I believe the new rams are equipped with the reese elite underbed system. U can buy the adapter to run a rail type hitch it's about 350 and worth it if you already have the rail type hitch.
Other than that u would need to purchase the reese elite 5th wheel. Can't comment on the center part. But I'm pretty sure a b/w will not be in your future.
The plugs just come out, then ur hitch will sit in there and you will have levers to turn that moves a cam and locks them in place.
I'm relaying this knowledge from ford as they are the only ones I have actually worked with. Haven't seen a new dodge with this system yet. But I believe they are the same shat.
Anyone who's selling you a hitch or products should know this. And if they don't I would kindly walk away

Thank you for your insight, Rpadar!

I spent an hour or so with GREAT Reese technician, today, who really explained this well. He even went over some of the GOOD features on some of his competitors hitches. The B&W Companion slider is "doable", but there is no under-bed support where the rear leg contact point is, so, essentially, you have a lever arm (from the GN ball to the 5'er pin, creating torque towards the rear legs (while under tow), and no real support at the rear-leg contact point. Eventually, the bed will dimple, weaken, and eventually fail at that contact point... Additionally, the B&W Companion requires the specific socket for the B&W reversable GN ball hitch, so that would also need to be purchased and the factory "puck" modified.

So it looks like it will be the Reese puck adapter, and a Reese R16 Round Tube Slider for me!

Now I just need to go outside (in the daylight) and figure out how to remove the damn factory plastic plugs that are in the pucks!! LOL!!!

The plastic covers "simply" twist into place, about a 1/4 turn or so. They are stupid tight especially if you have a spray in bedliner.

After fighting with mine a couple times I took a Stanley knife and trimmed some tolerance off of the covers and made life easy.
