injection pump front seal leaking like a siv

just put a rebuilt pump on a customers truck, and re-timed it only to find out that the front seal is shot already.. my question is can i replace the seal without removing the pump? as in pulling the gear back off and having access? truck has an airdog 165 on it wich i think may be the reason why it shot the seal but it was from XDP diesel and supposed to be set at 13psi pressure for this reason

I feel pulling the front cover would be a lot more work than pulling the ip. IMO just pull the pump.

Unless the actual seal has pushed out... its not a pressure issue.

I agree with RC....with everything involved with pulling the front cover, you'd probably have a better repair doing the seal with the IP off the motor.

Pump is an easy 30 min removal.
