Idle shutdown feature

Hello,

I asked the dealer to activate the idle shutdown feature and set it for five minutes on my 18 CTD 2500 before buying and the service manager advised they couldn’t find where to do this. It is covered on page 129 of diesel supplement (see pic) and says it is a dealer activated feature and can be set between 5 and 60 minutes to shut engine off when it has been idling. Anyone have this feature activated and can give some insight?

Thanks,

Mark

This can be done with custom tuning on other models as well, but as you said, it doesn't work like most people think it does. If you turn the key off, it shuts off right away. If you leave the truck running, the engine will shut off when the time it up, but the "key" remains on.

Thanks for the clarification - FCA forgot to specify that is only for certain models. In a previous truck I had a turbominder I installed and you could press the button and go from a minute to up to a few hours but I haven't been able to find one of those again. It was awesome when traveling and get off highway to not have to sit with vehicle and cool the turbo off. Just set timer, take keys, lock doors and it worked awesome.

P.S. OCD people don't eat sandwiches in their vehicles. Are you nuts? :)

Really? Well, it shouldn't take long to save up that money, as much goop as you used to go through.
Congratulations on the recovery! Now, if you could just stop waxing the diamond plate bed, too.

That's a nice feature.

They need to set them up like the Dodge Dart. They have a pump that keeps the coolant flowing through the turbo after you shut it off until it reaches a certain temp. I don’t see why they couldn’t set the same thing up on the Cummins.

Then.......we’d have and experience chaos, panic, disorder, bedlam, mayhem, pandemonium, and additional havoc in regards to worrying about TWO water pumps potentially failing. @Jimmy N.
