Hello everyone,

I am new to this site.

99 dodge ram 2500 cummins 24v laramie slt, auto trans.

I got the code for the crankshaft position sensor, the truck is running fine and there seams to be no problems. I bought the obd2 reader and erased the code, waiting to see if it comes back on again, but from what i have read i should probably replace the sensor.

anyone know how to do this?

I restore cars, rebuild gas engines, trannys so forth, for a living, just new to this diesel thing.

from what i have read, taking the starter off is helpfull, and using the Dodge part is better then aftermarket.

Thats about all i have found out so far. any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks !

If I remember right you have to go on the drivers side near the bottom of the block under the starter is the sensor. I think I am right but not sure my boss changed the crank sensor on his 99. Maby someone else will put in some input, dont want to sent you the wrong way.

Disconnect negative battery cables. And then on starter disconnect positive cable using 15mm. then another wire comes off and uses a 5/16 socket or wrench On starter use a 12pt. 10mm socket. 3 bolts two on bottom. one up top have to go around back of starter and put hand up and feel for it. used a 6" long extension and got the top bolt from father forward of the starter. they broke free and pulled the starter out it comes out in a crooked manor. then look to the left and see the sensor. That uses a 10mm 12pt also. unhook gray wire harness, then work out sensor. mine popped right out. Then carefully clean around mounting hole and pre lubricate sensor o-ring.And reinstall. I believe sensor is 15lbs torque

Get to it. Remove retaining bolt. Pull and reverse with new part.
