Buddy of mine just got another deuce that he's planning on keeping in one piece and having some fun with. It's a 1970 model M35A2 deuce and a half with a multifuel engine.

Anyone have experience with these, especially giving them more power. Can't really find anything very descriptive about doing this. Looking for general fuel system and injection pump knowledge. Pictures are really worth a thousand words.

Thanks guys

You can turn the fuel up one, but it's still not going to be anything special as far as power. Sometimes they can last for years turned up, sometimes they throw a rod the next day. steelsoldiers.com is a great forum for them.

I got tired of my multifuel and I'm swapping a 12V into mine, it's a pretty straight forward swap. Trying to soucrce the correct flywheel housing at the moment

he doesn't want to drop a 12 valve in it. not to worried about it throwing a rod....have two more spare running motors from the other ones he has procured that can be swapped in easily

not planning on drag racing this thing, just need a little more power. the thing is kind of a turd. Not a clue on what tranny it is. It's a 5 speed of some sort

I've skimmed steel soldiers but i'll start digging deeper into it

contact moparman1973 he was a firefighter and knows alot about those engines.

my first though would be that since it is most likely a 100% mechanical engine i would talk to the VE people.

The MFI engines in these trucks the older ones are usually a rotary injection pump.

They have a spicer 3053 Trans.

It is a rotarty injection pump. But the multi fuel differs from a diesel in its injection timing and injections. The fuel is spray in as more of a liquid then a mist at a much earlier timing. The top of the piston has different shape and design. The fuel is said to burn when it's injected but it's not until the compression of near Tdc fully combusts the fuel. The design itself limits the power but allows it to run of the variety of fuels. Turn the fuel up to a safe point will make it a little better but not a huge difference
