How to clear ECM / PCM (NOT just codes)

Anyone know how to clear the EMC / PCM for the 6.7L?

I am not talking about code clearing, that is fairly easy. I am talking about resting the ECM memory.

It used to be unhooking your batt for a few min would do it. But there are other ways to do it.

If you are trying to hide something it will be suspicious that the ecm was reset with no record of it being done.

I am not trying to "hide" anything (yet)

There are several legitimate reasons for doing this, as the ECM remembers your driving habits, and makes adjustments based on that.

If you search you will see that there can be many problems that can be solved by clearing the ECM on a vehicle.

As for the dealer, "suspicions" mean nothing in a court room, they tend to deal in proof.

if it can be done Which some of it can be be done It is burn in the clip Some of the history can be remove but most of it is burn in with the star scan i can see that something has been done but chry dsm scan tool can go in and see what was done and come up with the proof the only thing you can do is buy a new ecm but you need a star scan to load it

i had to unplug the batteries because my head unit froze up and wouldnt come on. seemed for a little while afterward the truck was faster. must be something with the computer "learning" and working against the power adders. i thought it was just me, but took my buddy for a ride and he was convinced that i added something else. :lol4:

I am surprised. Does anyone know for sure how this is done? I would figure someone on this BB would know the answer.:confused013:

I disconnected my batteries and let the truck sit overnight and I definitely could tell a difference in how the truck ran but then again it could have been in my head.

Any reset would have nothing to do with the programming. To restore to stock takes following the downloader instructions.
Codes can be cleared with a scanner.
As I see it the only gain to doing a power-down reset is to clear any "learning" that was done by the ECM of your driving habits. It would start with a base map and then learn again from that start point.

on my gasser i just(while its running) i remove the ecm fuse, just kills power to it and the motor dies, plug it back in, it sputters and dies, then i crank it one more time and she runs great, i do it to clear my check engine light for my evap system.

Do this and let us know. I see your EGR is unplugged so you should have the CEL & P0405 code stored. Do the power down reset and plug the EGR back in while it is off. Then see what you come up with at restart. Do you have a scanner to look for codes?

I thought it was just me getting used to the truck's power.
But after reading this. I too have had to unplug both batteries. Mine were only unplugged for a few min tops. AND it did seem to have more power after i did that.

I thought it was strange. I will try it again and report back.

It's nice to see others that "thought" it had more power after unhooking the batteries too.

We shall see.
