Ive searched and keep getting mixed answers.... How does added timing on smarty affect turbo spool? Does it make it spool faster or slower?

Generally adding timing helps spool up, however you can go too far both ways. Add too much timing and you will hurt spool and raise the risk of melting a piston. When timing is correct, the engine will run its coolest, and have the best power as it doesnt labor as hard. Diesels are a bit different in the manor of timing as changing timing is done to tune in the turbo more so then it is the engine. The correct amount of timing for the cylinders efficiency might not be the same as the correct amount of timing for the best turbo spool. Adding timing enhances how much fuel is burnt. The more fuel you can burn thru the power stroke the more gases that exit the exhaust port which in turn helps get the wheels turning in that turbo..

You are correct.

Lower timing injects the fuel later in the combustion stroke which puts the heat (EGT's) out to the turbo or turbos to increase spool.

Increased timing lowers the egts (increases the heat on the pistons) which hurts spool but increases cylender pressure to create more power once the turbo or turbos are lit.

I have the exact same problem when searching half say less=better spool the other half say more=better spool, right now i have my smarty on sw5 timing3 torque4 rp1. Im not too impressed with spool/power (doesent feel much more than my edge) what would you guys suggest?

Off topic, Went for a test drive....and im having rail pop issues... Im going to go back to revo, i can just download it even tho im not the original purchaser of the smarty right? Also later down the road i can go back to the tnt right? One more question how do i hook this up to my computer... He didnt send me a cord. Thanks again guys

I think im gunna leave tnt on sw3 untill i can get the supporting mods for the bigger tunes..... Do you think id be on revo sw9 with stock pumps?

I played around with the settings, spool is much better. I was running too much timing
