as the truck is running now... I think if I extremely baby it and dont accelerate hard or get EGTs higher than 10-1200 for extended periods, I should be able to make the 150 mile drive to calgary where I am meeting a guy and trading him for his smarty SR. at that point I will majorly de tune the injector pressure :( and hope that that fixes my problem until I get home and get it into a shop. what do you guys think.. am I going to melt a piston? is it going to get severly worse after 100-200-300 miles??

not too sure, but I can do the math...

47,000 KPA
150,000 KPA at full throttle.

47mpa = 6816 PSI
150mpa = 21755 PSI.... that doesnt seem right.

edit. doing some research.. it seems that some guys are sitting at 7000 PSI at idle. and are hitting 26-27,000 PSI at full throttle... whereas I only hit about 22,000 PSI. could that be why im not getting highway speeds??

Your rail pressure is fine.
It will always vary some and wide open max is 23,206psi. It takes tweaking to get above that. If that's what you get driving not neutral your fine.

Your low idle is not normal.

Remove and re-install the FCA connector.
What color is the smoke.
What does it smell like?

it doesnt smoke at idle. just when driving, then its black smoke.

also, not 100% sure but I think my engine oil is high.. does that seem right?

so called around. dodge dealerships cant help me.

called cummins lethbridge. they got nothing. they would have to get one from cummins edmonton which will be here tomorrow which is too late!

sooo. I seen that someone said to unplug the FCA, and plug it back in.. maybe that might help it??

is it safe to drive like this, or should I leave the truck at home and take the car back to work again?? :(

I would not drive it if your hitting 1500 degrees while slowly or regular acceleration.

Sounds like a failed injector first that can ruin the engine.
If your oil level is rising shut it down period.

You have the symptoms of a failed injector.

no I am in southern ab area!! thanks anyways though. appreciate that.

I ended up leaving the truck at home :(

ordered a new FCA for 188$ from cummins edmonton.

well see if that fixes the problem.

truck is 900F doing 50MPH or so (95km/h)... if you touch the pedal lightly... the truck doesnt speed up much, but the pyro just keeps climbing and climbing.

also, I dont know if its just me, but when I first fired the truck up in the morning, it almost looked like the smoke was a tad blueish. same thing with the thick clouds I was leaving behind while testing... not much blue though, maybe it was just because it was bright out that day.. I hope.

I am going to try to get an oil sample done on it before any major driving is done.

well... had my brother bring it to mechanic. brother said it wouldnt go past 50 mph without pyro skyrocketing.

mechanic got to it. said it ran fine. put in new FCA, and it ran bad... put in old FCA and it ran better again.

now what guys?

Use the FCA that works.
Are the EGT's in check?
Does it now go past 50 without skyrocketing?

Injectors sometimes stick and then come free. (for a while)

took for a drive yesterday with smarty turned down, all the numbers were fine... I am scared its going to act up again, especially when I turn the smarty up.

alright. so I got a fuel pressure and rail pressure gauge. now my mechanic is saying that hes thinking my lift pump is shot because of what reading the gauges are showing. oh no.

said its pushing a tiny amount of fuel not building any pressure, the cp3 is pulling fuel and its not even moving a mechanical gauge that he installed.

so now what?

how much does that cost? any suggestions, other than to sell this truck...

what do you guys think of this one? I want a good one that ill never have to worry about again:

Airdog and Fass are both pretty good. I think the airdog issues are done and it's the best customer service when something does go wrong.

Or you can go mechanical pump which many have done. Since you seem to be shooting for 800hp you might want to research it pretty well.

how come I gotta research it, hasnt it already been reasearched before???

anyways, here the situation.

dtt pump is 630$ locally and 4 week wait. which is the one I want.

fass 220 series is 850$ and can be here soon. but I dont want an electric pump, and its more expensive. double negative in my eyes.

what do you guys think? ill deal with the 800hp part when/if that ever comes I guess. right now, I just want my truck running and back on the damn road. 18,000$ into it and ive only put 1000 km on it since january FFS!!!!! not cool.
