Im putting a motor together for a conversion project and bought a fluid damper. But today i put a brand new stock fan/ clutch assembly on and when it threads on to the hub, it hits the damper before its even tightened on.
I measured the stock balancer and the the fluid damper and stock balancer is 1/2" thinner than the flud damper.
What am i missing here?

I had to install a spacer between the fan clutch and it's pulley (slip the spacer on the hub, then screw on the clutch/fan assembly.

I used a large diameter, 1/8" thick washer. Just enlarged the inside diameter to fit the hub.

well its good to know im not the only one. I thought about the spacer idea, just didnt know if it would have any negative effects, but sounds like thats the route il take. You say it only took 1/8" of spacing to clear?

Not trying to change the subject of the post, but was wondering if you can tell much difference with that fluid damper?

Oh....I don't know. Save wear and tear on the crank bearings, crank shaft and the rest of the rotating assembly? Stuff like that

I drove a guy's 1st gen that had one and you couldn't even feel it running, and mine shakes the screws out of the trim, i was also wondering if others found this to be true.

Call the maker of the fluid dampner...

Its hard to see in this photo but they make a spin on spacer... Look at my fan blades and how far forward the fan is.

They improve how smooth the engine runs a lot. Like others above I would put one on every cummins I own.

^ dam that's sexy.:drool2:... Now what were we talking about... Oh fluidampr I run one also and as stated before, it really does smooth out the engine.

Kinda hard to justify droping 4 bills on one... But looking back at my conversion $ #'s it was just a drop in the bucket.

I had clearance issues with the 92 oem aluminum fan...but have just enough room with a newer better designed oem steel fan I'm useing now. Must be a few different fan blade designs out there.
