This is a great idea, could you also post what mods are on the turbo if any and what your egts, and boost numbers are like for comparison purposes.

mine to be installed soon. it will be similar to your set up.

I will be subscribing to this one can't wait to get off this oil rig so I can install my 351ve and fleece controller that are sitting at the house

Yes I will be watching this as well. He351ve with HTTURBO 64 mm upgrade will be shipped to me, maybe tommorow with some luck. Lots of questions still unanswered, such as how to locate the controller in the right spot if it was removed. Also the Fleece software tune.

My egt gauge is toast right now.. It doesn't want to read on my quadzilla, I'm going to wire up another one.. Sometime.. From what I read longevity is there.. But there is failures... On the solenoid .. I think this turbo is great so far .. Especially with the cam.. Lots of power..

Here's mine
I got your PM 361Roc. Whens the best time to call?
My mods are 220's, Adrenaline, and Smarty sometimes.
However, my hair dryer is modified a bit. It has a 66mm compressor wheel and a HX40 10 blade exducer. It will move some serious air.
Here's a prime example of the Hx40 shaft doing some work. How long have you had this turbo and how far have you pushed it? I would thing the VGT, would spool quicker and faster than any non-VGT. I just don't like how people diss the 40's and say your guaranteed to break a shaft.

Sorry for being off topic.

My turbo had the controller removed re the upgrade. Just reading johnyboy59s thread, and for me thats a bit hard, chaseing it bit by bit. I have know idea where it was before it was pulled. So this morning on the phone to the Cummins dealer in Perth, and the guy there new straight away what i was on about. The answer was bring it in and we will cycle it back to the right position. Thats me of the hook. As far as bad controllers, i figure I will just buy a spare one and carry it behind the seat. Mind you while I am at Cummins get them to cycle the spare one as well.

My dealership said the same thing, They didnt even want to talk to me over the phone because I didnt have the serial# off the truck it came off of. Furthermore, they said even if they had the #, they said the couldnt calibrate it off the original truck anyway. They were real "helpful" and had an "AWESOME" customer service dept.lolololololol They basicly told me to f@ck off in a real smart a$$ way because it was all custom.....

A bump for this thread since I am working on tuning right now. I find that I am not able to make the boost that I had with my HX35. I think I have too much restriction going on. My current tune is based off of Johny59 (Spelling?) tune. His I believe was a little too aggressive for me. I think I have too much restriction at times. Here is my current tune.

2001 2500
Quad ZXT+ beta tune
50Hp sticks
AirDog 150
4" MBRP

Anyone with insight or suggestions on tuning I am all ears.

Thats what i have been doing too. However i have only been at it for 5 days. I have a ways to go. Thanks for your input johny59. I appreciate it.

just by what i see in your table, you have some issues. you have several cells with values greater than your jake brake brake value. that is some of your restriction. i also changed my dial adjust to 25%. you get a little more room to move it up or down, especially if your as far off off as you think you are.

also, how do you take the screen shot? i tried it last time i saw this thread, but nobody else was doing it, so i said oh well then.

Thanks Bullet. After looking at a few things I actually went back to factory on the controller based on the OP's settings. The settings that came on mine were a little more aggressive and caused the turbo to bark. I like how it reacts now, I just need to tweak it a tad. I think it will also help to have a little more fuel to spool this thing up.
If you are using windows 7 it has a snipping tool built in under All Programs > Accessories > Snipping Tool....Or in Windows XP if you Highlight the Fleece program and do an Alt + Prnt Screen you will capture just the active window. Then you can paste it into paint save as a .jpg and upload to photobucket or equivelant...

when I actually get the program working on my computer I might post some settings...

Not to be a smart azz in any way but does it really make much of a difference adjusting the VGT on these turbo's? I would think it only opens and closes via the controller. What are the gains of tuning the VGT over leaving it stock and using the fleece controller knob adjustment. And I have to say that chart looks like Chinese BS to me, I have no clue what any of those numbers reference to and is it done by rpms etc etc... Please school me on this so once my VGT is on I'll have a good idea what to adjust and what not to adjust. My setup is only gonna be with 125's and a smarty. No cam, no head studs and no aggressive tuner. It's for my '99 tow pig/dd truck. Please enlighten me on what it helps in tuning these 351VE's.

you can run it they way you first mentioned. but we adjust them so it is automatic, and you don't have to constantly adjust that knob. for example, if you're on a pull or a pass, and you all of a sudden hit a cell and it chokes you off...you don't want that.

@Chris91, I had some issues getting my program to work also, but it was nothing with the software, I just didn't have it setup correctly. If you have any questions let me know and maybe I can help.

@Cummins04.5
Like what was said you want to be able to just drive the truck and not have to worry about adjusting the turbo on the fly. When I first put my turbo and controller on the controller was set so that the exhaust housing was actually smaller then stock and I was barking the turbo like crazy. Not to mention I had a lot of back pressure and EGT's were higher....
Basically you have the RPM range across the top and the Go pedal position on the left. The higher the number on the left, the more pedal. So as you go faster or are at your cruising RPM (mine is 1900 to 2000) you might want to drop the amount of boost for better fuel economy. If you have any other questions let us know. I am no expert, but I am figuring more and more out.

My question is, I have seen numerous threads about what the size of the exhaust housing is and I have seen just as many answers as threads. So what is the official size (cm's) of the exhaust housing?

Hey guys i watched their You Tube videos, and is all i need is the controller? Or do i need their turbo as well, because it really looks like a great product.
Thanks

#28 ·
You will need a Holset HE351VGT or HE451VGT turbo. Their box will work with either, but you must specify to them what you are running. The turbo is not specific to them, just the controller. Hope thats clear.

With my he351vgt currently, I find I like the way the truck runs better with the knob turned to the left. Which numbers should I change and how much? Higher or lower? Thanks

#31 ·
you know how far the knob is turned by the software. there is a box to let you where it is currently. just changed most or all the values in the table by that percentage.

the numbers in the graph are percentages from what I gather. 100 would be 100% closed and zero is all the way open. gotta toy with it to get it right for your driving style...
