I just bought my first diesel!! I’m pretty handy so I would like to preform the EGR/DEF complete delete with exhaust change. The under the hood part isn’t an issue for me. My concern is the programing. I was told I could plug a programmer in and increase HP by 75 and disconnect the programmer and all would be good( Not sure if that’s even what I need) Does this sound right? If so what programmer would I need? My goal is to have the sound like an old diesel while improving my gas mileage. My use for the truck in normal driving and pulling my bumper pull camper (8500 lb).

Take the time to do more reading. You owe that to yourself and truck.
In the meantime fill out your signature so people know what you’re driving.

It’s a two edged sword, you are poorly informed and need to do more research, however information stored is information was spoken about. Can’t please everyone.

Yes, most of the modern programmers are bought with tunes installed. You hook this up to the computer and follow the prompts on the programmer. Most have 4 diff tunes, but for a little less you can get one loaded with a single tune. The programmers are nothing more then a means or a tool used to transfer new computer tunes to the trucks computer. Some programmers stay stuck to your dash or a pillar or windshield and offer gauges and shift on the fly capabilities. Some tuners just upload a tune and use a knob or switch pre set to each tune for switch on the fly ability. Some programmers just upload a single tune so if you want to swap to a diff tune you have to go through the loading process again. Ezlynk is a big one but it uses your phone as a monitor, not a fan of that. I’m stuck in the direction of a screen/monitor like the mm3 or raceme. More important then your tool used to transfer the tunes is the set of tunes you buy. Get them from a reputable shop or tuner

I guess my previous post either didn’t go through or got deleted. So I’ll try again,

Yes you should do more research, but the funny thing is, research consists of reading, and an inter webs forum is a great place for debate and back and forth. If we shut down each person asking for advice with “use the search” function, in time there will be less and less to read. We can all have a logical debate, and the good news is, if you don’t wanna say anything about it, it actually takes more effort to post “use the search function” then ignoring the thread altogether.

Anyhow, off my soap box, there are a couple diff ways to go. Each programmer is nothing more then a tool or medium to upload files. Two of the big names now are ezlynk which is great and the mm3 or raceme. The ezlynk uses your phone as gauges as a way to interact, while the mm3 and raceme has a screen for gauges and switch on the fly options. I personally don’t like needing my phone to use as gauges or a form or interaction and will be going mm3. Each programmer comes blank or loaded with a 1 or more tunes made by the tuner for your truck or one like it. There are emissions intact tuning as well as full delete tunes.

Yes that can be done. If your talking +175hp tune, start talking transmissions, whichever one you have.
