While driving my truck today in the rain, headlights on, I noticed that my dashlights all went out. Then they came back on. Later on after the truck had sat for a few hours I noticed my signal lights weren't working except for one back ones. Only one brake light is working also only have one headlight on low beam and the opposite one works on high beam. I have check the bulbs out and they are all fine. There is no power to the lights that are out.
Any idea what it could be?

I would guess the ECM or a relay too, maybe some water got in it when you were driving in the rain its odd that you were having all those problems at once.
put the key in and leave it in the off postion then hold the trip meter in then turn the key to the on postion. EVERY dash light should turn on. Make sure that all the lights on the dash work first. Sounds like water is shorting out the connection between two wires.
It sounds like water is getting in somewhere and shorting things out. I recently had a 2007 work truck that would short out every time we went to the car wash. All dash lights, gauges, and odometer would stay on after ignition wall killed and key removed. The next morning both batteries would be dead. We never were able to figure out where the water was getting in or what was shorting. After a day of drying out and recharging the batteries it would be fine. At least until the next time that it was washed (and the company requires weekly washings)...
Turn your key from "off" - "on" -"off" - "on" -"off" - "on" and leave it on the last time and look at eh display screen and see if it throws a code. If so, it should tell you. Just a thought.
I performed very well this morning (hehehe)... the truck how ever still the same as last night.
Checked with the key thing and no codes are showing other than the normal skim key code.
Still have wet, damp and snowy weather here, so not much drying happening.
Agreed doesn't narrow it down much, but it is a possibility. I FRICKEN' HATE ELECTRICAL DEMONS they are the worst! Course if I could just get squared away on basic stuff like how to operate my multi-meter, I might actually be able to figure some of them out
I am a BMW mechanic and by no means a Dodge mechanic, but an ECM is just that, engine control, not body equipment control module. But like I said I am not a dodge mechanic, I would think that they would have a module for body equipment
sounds like a Dodge to me , I have noticed electrical problems in a few dodges of mine and of other people's none quite like this but all involving lights. I would have to agree on the ground, does your truck make it off road much? If so you may have worn through a wire while in the rough country, It'll be hard to track down but I'd start with a wiggle test at the headlights and move to every connection to see if you get any reaction.
on the inner side of the fender there are three grounding bolts on each fender, on the drivers side next to the fire wall I think is were most of the lighting grounds go "looking at the wiring diagram"
Thank you very much! I like it too.
Yes, have tried a few of the grounds on the drivers side, but it was too cold and windy to spend much time outside today. Suppose to be above freezing and sunny tomorrow, so looking to get back to it then.
Dodge has a body control module that controls the things listed as well as your climate controls... fan position ie defrost floor etc. I thinks somebody have anything different to add to that?
I would just get out there and start grabbing connectors and wires see and have somebody watch while you move these around to see if it has any effects on the situation. Just make sure everything youve done so far has been done correctly. fuse and relay checks. Hope you figure it out.
I plan on going out tomorrow and trying to do some of the helpful suggestions given. My neighbor says he's gonna come and help me.
I hope we figure it out too.
Oh that's sweet of you, thank you for the offer to come help me. It appears that electrical problems do suck... not going very well.
Yes, it is a little more than a hop, skip and a jump to Canada from Texas!
It could be a bad ground, but most likely there is a junction somewhere in the electrical that has gone out.
Relays are hard to look at and determine if they are bad. The best thing to do is use either a relay tester or have the dealer run a diagnostic.
If you're good enough with electrical equipment, you can grab a multimeter and start checking for connectivity through all of the wiring. It will be time consuming and painful, but you will eventually find the problem.
Good luck. If you figure out a way to get a hold of a wiring schematic (in the dealer manuals) let me know. It would be nice to have around.
The Banks PDA setup is nice because you can check all the trouble codes from the cab of your vehicle.
Try the easiest thing first. Check the batteries. My wifes car was doing the EXACT same thing and I checked every fuse and every FRICKEN ground on the dang car. Did an altenator test and nothing. Turned out it was something as simple at the battery. Never would have thought that would be the problem but sure wish I would have started there...
I just paid a dealer 135 to fix this problem in my 03
I had a wireing harness wire rubbing on a ground strap, and it didnt even wear thru, but it was sending off my instrament light like a christmas tree.
In my case it was the harness that went to the drivers seat that was the demon.
Hi guys. Thought I would bring you up to speed on what happened today.
My neighbor came over just like he said he would. We checked all the fuses and relays... all were good. We put dielectric grease on all the wiring connections, still had no power to the light sockets. We pulled out the fuse box/panel, through some holes on the bottom we seen some corrosion on the inside, so we proceeded to dismantled it to try and clean up the corrosion. Then we reassembled it and reinstalled it and ta-da .... it is WORSE!!! Now the parking lights won't shut off... the signal lights still don't work except one... and the head lights still don't work proper. I don't think my neighbor is quite as hand as he lets on to be. I think he was checking me out more than my truck!!
Here is a pic of the fuse panel tore apart. What do ya's think?
hate to say it but if that made it worse assuming all connections were put back correct you have a broken wire some where that is causeing a dead short. when you moved all the wires to get the fuse panel out you also moved that wire thats broke.
