Fix your wiring problem. You have something shorted. Does the mirrows work? no!

Yeah.. the same thing happened to me. Im guessing that you didnt route the wire correctly behind the mirror and pinched the wires. The other problem I had was that the power mirror switch was hitting the stud on the mirror. Is this a normal problem?

i had the same problem but for the top stud i twisted it in more into the mirror and when putting the door frame back on i pushed a little towards the back door so it wouldnt hit the stud because it was just slight touching in mine but pulling on the plastic trim helped.

The wires were pinched inside, just butt connected them. Follow wire routing directions for mirrors, that's where I went wrong lol.

I feel like ive just been hit with the same problem. I was driving the other day and went to adjust my mirror and as soon as i hit it they didnt work and my radio quit. I tried looking for fuses didnt see any blown, didnt check the IOD one or whatever was mentioned in this thread. Also, went to start my truck for first time today since that happened and the truck wont start... im hoping that is why??:banghead:

For my grandfather 75th birthday I purchased tow mirrors off eBay. After installing the tow mirrors the IOD fuse keeps blowing. Every time he switches the mirrors it blows! No good deed goes unpunished. I feel terrible. Now his radio and interior lights don't work. Trying to figure out the problem I don't understand why the fuse keeps blowing. It is a 10 fuse and his car is an 01 dodge ram 2500. Please help. I feel horrible it's been going on two weeks now. Thank you in advance

Take the mirrors back off and check the wiring. You have a wire pinched or there is a short in the mirrors somewhere. If you check the wiring coming out of the mirrors going to the plugs and don't see anything then its probably shorted internal to the mirror somewhere. To check for an internal short on the mirror itself, get a multi-meter and set it to the ohms setting and with the mirror off the truck, put one probe in one slot on the plug on the mirror and the other on one of the mirror mounting studs or any part of the mirror that is metal and see what it reads. It should be infinite ohms or open. If it reads low (50 ohms or less, probably closer to 0) then that is your short. Repeat this with each slot in the plug. None of them should read shorted, they should all read open. If you find that the short is internal to the mirror then return them.

The 01 FSM is available for download if you search this site. It has every wire and plug with location. Find it regardless but use the wiring diag if rerouting the mirror wires doesn't fix it. It's something in the mirror or something you did if there was no problem before.

A lot of folks have a hard time removing the IOD Fuse. First grab the black "Ears" of the fuse carrier and pull out. It's pretty hard on the fingers, but wiggle it and be persistent. It will only come out about half the length of the fuse. Then open the clasp part of the black carrier. I used my pocket knife (gently). Here are a coupla pics to make it easier, I hope this helps! Good Luck!
