Like the other guys said, its easy, but you should have some specialty tools to do some measuring of your new parts to make sure that they are within spec. A small bore gage or set of pin gages would be nice, but a 1" micrometer, a v-block, and a dial indicator with mag base are all you really need for most simple rebuilds. (Other than basic hand tools and snap ring pliers)

Don't trust that your parts were manufactured in spec, measure that stuff!

99 out of a hundred times its probably okay, but a piece that turns 30,000 + RPM's is nothing to be taken lightly. Especially when it has the potential to completely destroy your very expensive engine.

Personally, I think you should do it. You have the right mindset going it. You should be nervous, but don't let that stop you. Just take your time, be extra careful, and don't be afraid to stop and ask for help.

Rebuilt my 66/71/14 Super-Phat-shaft with an Ebay 360* severe duty kit. I just marked the shaft and compressor wheel to make sure the balance stayed the same. The installation is a piece of cake, just lay out everything in the order that it came out, I ground the old sealing ring in half, then hit it with a jewelers file to clean the edges, clean out the ring land's to get out all the carbon, so the new rings will seal good.

Hey so I rebuilt my turbo last night I only have a few photos as I got so into it I forgot to take some. I can say this ( I honestly didn't know or read it anywhere) THE NUT IS REVERSE THREAD!!! off is on/ on is off. Other then that its a piece of cake.

1. remove the 8 bolts half moon plates from the back side of the compressor housing, to remove housing tap with rubber mallet.

2. remove 6 bolts and half moon plates from exhaust housing. Now with this you may have to get some PB blaster or penetrating oil to aid in the housing and center section coming apart. If you have a torch that will help. I used a small rose bud and had the torch set really low to control the flames. Once the the oil has sat long enough/ or heated up have someone hold the compressor side or hold it with one hand a few inchs off the table and hit the exhaust housing back and fore from side to side.

3. I used an 3/8 impact but holding the turbine(exhaust side) covered with a rag or towel (gloves) remove the comp wheel nut with the gun in forwards.

4. Take of wheel and pull the shaft out.

The rest is pretty self explanatory. One huge piece of advice I can give is there is a "piston ring" type ring on the exhaust turbin side just above the little dish. when you are going to re install the shaft hold the center section comp side to your palm. Make sure the shaft is centered and the space and the spave on piston ring is facing up towards the oil feed side as this is what seals the exhaust side for oil leakage. center the shaft turn the turbine a few times then push down. you should feel the ring compress and go in to the tapperd hole on the center section. you will know its in if the turbin shaft can spin freely. after that repeat the process above just backwards.

Hope this helps. If you need any help just shoot me a PM and ill give you my number.

S366 Tore Down To Parts. Photo by jake_norton1 | Photobucket

Here this is a photo of it tore down, so what ever thrust bearing that is. I just did the stock rebuild. Ive talked to a few shops and they have all said if your truck is a DD the 360* is really worth the extra money (IF** your buying it brand new with that bearing) rebuild sure why not but the way I see it is if its not to important as my truck is just a DD why spend it on the rebuild either.
