I have a 2017 DRW with 46k miles. I started noticing some clunking noise at the diff especially when shifting from reverse to drive and vice versa. I can also easily replicate it by keeping it in first gear and give throttle, backing off to decel, and then throttle back to accelerate...and “clunk” . Also not concerned about the transfer case noise which is minimal during reverse and drive shifting and seem completely normal. Driveshafts doesn’t move in any direction. It’s the clunk in the diff that worries me. Removed the pumpkin cover and took some pics. It doesn’t look normal to me but I don’t have much experience with differentials. There are some striations in the pinion ring that seem odd. And not sure about the ring gear Wear. I think contact looks good? I was thinking they should have more of a shiny finish though. Also I can rotate the drives almost a 5/8” from measuring at the yoke to diff housing. I don’t hear any of the howling or whining that is typically associated with ring and pinion issues. I haven’t measured back lash but I can turn the driveshaft/pinion just ever so slightly before the ring gear moves which I’m assuming it waaay out of tolerance ( neutral with Ebrake on). I can easily replicate the clunk when axle is on jack stands and in neutral by spinning the ring gear with my hand, or spinning a tire back and forth. Clunk seems to be coming from the tract-rite lsd / draft shaft spline? Just seems so sloppy. Pictures attached. I think I may have two issue, back lash issue and maybe bad lsd unit? I plan on taking in for warranty but want to get some ideas so I can clearly explain to dealer and they don’t come back and say it’s normal. Also to note I did have some sparkling diff oil when I changed it, but no chunks of any sort. I know breakin will cause some metal flakes. Oil was pretty dark and nasty. The magnet on the plug had a decent amount of metal but nothing excess from what I saw others look like at there first oil change.
