i am gettin a set of brand new 3rd gen stock coils for free. i am gonna try and throw em on my straight cab and see what happens. everyone says the ride will stiffer but. for free, i figured what the heck. might as well try it. but. i dunno which shocks to match em up with.. i am thinking 5100's.. but overlands are cheaper for all four.
would the overlands be too soft for the 3rd gen coils?

if i dont like it, ill go ahead and pull them off and sell them or something. but i thought i would gain more of a lift? at .5" the spring rate shouldnt much more?

#4 ·
spring rate has nothing to do with spring height, spring rate has to do with how tightly they made the coils, and they must have made the 3rd gen coils a little further apart, and a little longer

#5 ·
would they be worth the effort to try and put them on or no?
i am kinda wishin i could ask someone that has tried it

ahh i dunno. i hate hitting rail road tracks already
thanks for the input guys! guess ill look for some cheap hemi coils. just curious.
for the hemi coils, i am looking for 03-07 half ton or three quarter ton coils?
or does it matter. anything with a gasser V8 between 03-07?

Chances are a hemi coil is going to lower the front end a considerable amount since the hemi doesn't weigh jack compared to a cummins. . . . .

And try to find half ton 4x4 3rd gen coil and let me know what you come up with, they use torsion bars on the 3rd gen half tons

According to specs a 5.7 hemi weighs 485 pounds, a 5.9 cummins weights 1kish. . . . that's a 500 pounds difference, where is the rest coming from?

If your not going to use the 3rd gen coils I will take them off your hand I could use them. PM me if your wanting to get rid of them. Thanks!

with the hemi coilsif anything ill scavenge up a spacer to level it back out. i have heard it drops the front end 1" with a stock bumper. but with a two inch spacer, 5100's and the hemi's it should put me an 1" above stock and considerably softer compared to stock.
i wonder how the stock hemi coils are compared to KORES or even Thurens.
and ill let you know Rusty

Just sell em and get some skyjacker D25 coils. They improved my ride quality considerably but they are a solid 2.5 inches of lift.

I've got a 325/65-18 Which is basically a 35/13.50-18

They only rub slightly on turns on slight inclines like going in and out of driveways.

I have thought of dropping to a 285/75-18 which is about a 34.5/12-18 but I like my wide tires the way they are.

But then I go back to my plowing side of things, Cassi told me to leave my 35s on because my truck is just " so bad " the way it is, and with stock tires and the spacers it will look stupid.

So now, wide 35"s that rub the way it is, and a 800 pound plow, that sits 3 feet in front of the axle drops the front end about 2 inches, and they will just rub worse. So I don't know what to do lol.

I am going to look into that Thuren coil, but I will still be in the same boat with the plow, and I wonder how the coils will hold up to my plow in the winters.

But unless they have coils that aren't listed on their website, the 3" coil for 3rd gens actually lifts a second gen about 3.5 inches, which is too much for me, 2.5 is the most I want.

#22 ·
But because of the progressive rate of a 2" Thuren coil, chances are if my plow drops my front end 2" with a stock coil it will drop even more so with a Thuren coil

#24 ·
Well, regardless of that fact, they are a softer rate coil , so I was still assume that my plow would make them drop more than factory coils would?

the 2" is kinda hard to find.
Strapt Performance - Thuren Fabrication Dodge 2" Lift Coils
i think it comes out to 2.5" on 2nd gens. but they are really nice.
my original plan was these (or the 3")
with overlands all the way around
3rd gen adjustable track bar
steering stabilizer bracket
Kore's bump stops (since don stopped making his)
DOR's shackle flip kit, (remove the block and overload)
and i would have been done. :banghead:

so i guess ill search for some hemi springs, 5100's steering stabilizer bracket, bump stops, (ill do the track bar this summer) and possibly just flip the shackle bracket and hope it doesnt put it at too much of an angle :confused013:
anything that i am missing?

carli's would drop like a rock with a plow huh?

AHEM!!! There is more than one Thuren dealer on this forum sir! Have you asked if someone had 2" coils in stock?

#27 ·
i believe he said 800 lbs

OK, I have an answer to your question about the plow. Don says it will drop your front end one inch. Since they are his coils, I'm going with that answer. So, on a 2nd gen, you'll be about 1.5-1.75 inches higher than stock with the plow on.

So if they only drop one inch a are they a harder spring rate than stock? That wouldn't make sense or stylist it doesn't to me
