i am looking at installing a hidden wheel lift on my 3500 12v. and after doing some research i found some people saying that the 2nd gen dodge frame is unsuitable to be used as a tow truck, because it has the split frame design and the frame will come apart. is this true ? if it is, whats the best way to reinforce the frame ?

I know people with second gens who tow all the time, my dad hauls a 20 foot fifth wheel with his, He n I both have hauled lots of firewood and I've seen him hook onto my truck when I got it stuck once n pull so hard he bowed my receiver hitch behind the bumper. if they were that weak they wouldn't be rated for what they are rated for. I wouldn't worry I see second gens hauling a crap load of weight.

I saw a 2nd gen at a scrap yard local to me with one of those hidden lifts. So people do run them and from what i can gather they do fine. Now if the frame is rusted out that's a different story.

The PO of my truck had the tow truck setup I guess you call it. He did repos with it for about 200,xxx miles and never had a prob with it, neither have I.
Like they said unless you have pretty rusted up frame then I prob wouldn't try it.
