That's really weird that your truck didn't come with a block heater cord, but did it come with a block heater?

Someone posted on here that all the 6.7's come with the heater in the block, you have to pay $90 extra to have Chrysler put it on. Geno's has them for $15 that's where I got mine.......I'm not sure if the older plugs are the same.

So my truck was ordered into a dealership in Minnesota, so I'm assuming it has the cord? I spent about 10 minutes under the truck lying in the snow trying to find the cord and no luck. Where is the cord hidden on these trucks? Which side of the block would I find the block heater on so I can determine if I even have a cord?

Thanks!

If you find that your truck did not come with the cord and want to install one, the heater element connection is right by the oil filter and has a black screw on cap (comes off easy). The best time to install one is while changing the oil/filter, which worked out great for me. Now I have her plugged into a $7 Brinks timer (Lowes) which comes on at 4am. It does indeed help.

The Mopar part number listed above is correct as well but costs considerably more. It has the plastic tabs that plug into holes for securing it. The cheaper cords from Genos or the Cummins shops do not have them and you'll need a few long zip ties for securing.

FYI - I have my factory cable for sale HERE if anybody is still having trouble finding the OEM one.

I just thought I would clarify this as i do see it alot on the forum. All Cummins come to Chrysler with a block heater and for several years the all came with a block heater cord and on the window sticker it would show a $90.00 upcharge for the optional block heater when in deed all it was, was the installation of a cord. In 2010 the trucks have an option of a cold weather cover, totally separate from the cord. From time to time dealers that order trucks forget to mark off the little block heater cord tellling the factory to install the cord. It has nothing to do with the factory, they build them the way they are ordered, why would you order a block heater in Florida if you lived there? I am not saying I agree with this just stating the way it is so you know the rest of the story. I too had to put a cord on my truck as it wasnt built with one.

If thats the case why have I NEVER had a charge for a block heater cord and I have had one on my last 10 trucks?

The dealership I got mine from said they order all their Cummins with no cords and no hitches. If the buyer wants them they will install for the same price that would have been on the sticker. So nobody b1tches about buying something they dont want....... but then again dealerships say a lot of crap.

Its listed on the Moroney, or window sticker as either a block heater, or cold weather package. New trucks on our lot have it listed as a cold weather package for $90.00. It's always been there on the window sticker as a option as long as it has been an option. That said it used to be standard so it wasnt an upcharge on the window sticker as a optionable charge. I cant remember when but years ago chrysler stopped putting it on every vehicle as standard equipment to save some money in warm weather climates.

How many window stickers would you like to see with no listing for any winter package or block heater? I am telling you its a regional thing. Cold weather states and Canada all get it added at no charge.

I have had them on every truck since 1990 and have never had one on the window sticker.

I just read in your profile you are in Canada. I would agree it's a country thing, rather than a regional thing. The factory builds them the way they are ordered, you paid $30,000 to $55,000 USD for the cord, the truck was free.

Just throwing my hat in the ring here.

My opinion: all cummins engines have a block heater, standard. The $90 "cold weather package" gets you the cord that connects to the block heater and it also gets you the winter front cover.

This is how it's listed on my sticker, how it was listed in all the literature I reviewed prior to buying, and how it's listed on the Ram trucks website in the 'build your own' section.

You can duplicate the $90 cold weather package by buying a cord and a winter front grille cover.

My truck has the $90 "Engine Block Heater" listed on the window sticker, and it indeed did have the cable. It does not list the winter front or any kind of winter package.... where was your winter front for those of you that did have it?

When the cord was standard it wasnt on the window sticker, it was included in the price of the truck. This became an issue when Chrysler made it optional and all the sales managers ordering trucks were'nt told to order them so they had lots of unhappy owners looking for the cord to plug in the heater. That being said as soon as the managers started ordering them with the block heater option the factory built them according to the build sheet. If it was an option you were charged for it, i have never heard of any factory installing something for free. This thread is going no where fast.
