I would save the money and headache and go with a gear vendor. If it is a manual you would get your ten speed right there!

gear vendors have different set ups. Some divorced, and some bolt on the tranny. I had a ford with a gear vendors, and it replaced my tail shaft. The OD for my 97 Dodge is divorced. Different applications for every vehicle.

its a dodge and we put a 13 speed eaton fuller behind a 96 cummins motor that was built to the hilt:peelout motor and trans is mounted now doin drive shafts and axles turned out good so far:thumbsup:

i have done it. i have a 90 f350 and swaped a 6bta out of a school bus in it. i just took the allision off and got a sae #2 flywheel housing on the engine. for the transmission i have a rtoo 9513 eaton fuller 13 speed double overdrive. if you go with the 2" input shaft your clutch options are limited but a good heavy duty truck place should be able to set you up. i used a twin disk rated for about 1200 ft-lb. the shop i ordered the parts from had a pilot bearing that fit both the engine and transmission which i had been told would require machining to fit. the engine already had an air compressor on it and i already had an onboard air setup. the intermediate driveshaft goes from a 1710 to a 1410 ujoint going into the divorced 205. i have 4.10 gears and lt235/85/r16 tires. my rpms in 8th over (13th) are about 1800 at 65 give or take about 100 rpms. i cut about a foot off the shifter. i'm still not finished but i've been driving it for about 4 months. clutch disengagement is an issue because i've tried cable and hydraulic and neither worked so now i'm going to try pneumatic using a treadle valve and pneumatic cylinder. right now i don't have the floor done so i just step on the lever itself.

How do you get that monster sthirteen speed up under that truck ?

i got an idea!
i just got an international dump at work five speed and browning box with od
if took that browning out and swapped it in my dodge behind a rag or nv, id have a 15 speed 5low 5 derict drive with 1 od gear and five in od with fifth being double over. put the 3.07 out of project fire truck id have a pullin 45 mpg machine
any opinions?

as for me no crane and no body lift. i had to cut the floor but it won't be bad once i get it closed up. the transmission really isn't that big. it's about the same length as an automatic and the same diameter as the clutch housing all the way back. as for lifting i just used part of the house which i supported with a couple 4x4's. redneck yes, but it worked. i cut more firewall out that i needed because i didn't have anyway to cut the front crossmember. my oil pan is bigger than the dodge pans so it had to go back further until i could weld in a new cross member at the front of the engine then remove the stock crossmember. this allows me to drop the pan without having the frame in my way. being an industrial engine it uses a motor mount under the balance then one on each side of the flywheel housing. the tranny just hangs but i plan on putting a cross member in for that too, just for good measure.

if you don't use a 13 speed with over drive it will be like running in fourth gear (no overdrive) with your 5 speed plus you will need an aircompressor so you can shift. your best bet is a nv5600 six speed & be done with it!

that truck, due to gearing, only would run 65 on the high way.

and he was pulling in 6th gear and low on the splitter, which wasnt enough, he ran out of wheel speed at around 150 feet or so

A ten speed in 6th gear in on the high side of the range selector a ten speen does not have a splitter. As far as transmissions go I would go with an eaton fuller super 10 it only has five holes each with a split it also has a 1500 pound tq rating I would use an eaton eaasy pedal clutch. ( you will need an air comp. wichever way you go

I like this thread, good ideas. I am tired of blowing tranny's in my 04.5, and have been looking at trying a 8spd LL. I tow boats for a livin, and like the idea to creep. PLus i drove these tranny when i drove big trucks for a livin, and they can take some abuse. Ive personally hauled em loaded with 50 to 70k pounds and never had a problem. i am just wondering if it would be worth it. ideas??

is that a common rail? i thought all 5.9s shared the same flywheel housings but i found out the hard way when i got a sae#2 for a common rail and it was totally different
