I was wondering what the difference is between the 03 and 04.5? What did they change halfway through the year in 04 is there a performance difference, does the 03 come with a cat? What exactly did they change? Thanks for your input.

the '03 is available with either a 250/480 SO. or 305/555 HO. and has 2 injection events The SO and HO's have no cat unless you have a CARB SO then there is a cat. The HO's were not available new in CA.

the '04.5 is 325/600. It has a more powerful computer, bigger turbo, electronic wastegate, different injectors, and a cat.
it came 50 state emissions certified

There might be more but I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

There is actually alot different between 03-04.5+. I could go on all day with the pros and cons.

If you want quick, easy, and cheap way to get 550HP then you should look into a 04.5+ since its alot easier and cheaper to get to 550HP. The computer, fueling sysyem, and turbo are better on 04.5+ for making HP. Its kind of a taboo subject and lots of people seem to get butt hurt when you say 04.5+ are better....but they really are. Yeah when you get to a certian level like 650HP+ there equal but it take alot of $$$ to get them to equal after changing parts. Seriously how can you argue when you get an additional 40hp+ on a 04.5+ when using a Smarty on level 9 and dont forget that you can use the 230HP Crazy Larry program thats also for 04.5+ ONLY.

Also if you have noticed most if not all the guys that are on a conquest for high HP and dual cp3 guys are using 04.5+. Yeah there are a few of 03-04 guys out there but they built thoes trucks before the 04.5+ was out.

The only benifit to 03-04 is better mpg if you drive really easy. I have a heavy foot and live in the mountains and dont get good mpg out of my 03.

If all your going to do is put fuel in it and drive it like the factory intended there all good but if you have dreams of HP then go with a 04.5+

I'll say this, so far there's practically no "butt feel" power difference between my '03 555 and my new '06 610, stock. The '06 has a long way to go before it's broken in like the '03 was, though. The '03 got better MPG, but again the '06 isn't broken in, and it's not a direct apples:apples comparison, the trucks are configured a little differently.

Like said before, if you are leaving it stock, if the '03 is a HO (305/555) you'll be just as happy with it as the '04.5

Another difference is that the SO motors run alot cooler than the HO's. Im still running the stock exhaust and my EGT's have not been above 1000....even while towing.
