03 injector lines, cleaning engine.

So the plan is to degrease the engine bay but primarily around the injector lines, its a mess. The crankcase vent line broke off and had oil pouring down onto the intake manifold, previous owner. I degreased it before with an engine degreaser and was not happy with the turn out at all. So I was thinking on trying Simple Green and letting it sit longer to try and break up some of the hard to reach areas. I don't think it will be as harsh as the engine degreaser was on the valve cover.
The rest of the bay is fairly clean.

Has anyone managed to clean up their injector lines and fuel rail on the outside? Mine are all scaled and they don't look like they are worth saving when I do injectors.
If I can't save them and I buy new lines/rail everything to cp3, any good prices? It's about $350 for the fuel rail here in Southern Ontario.

Simple green along with a brush and a rag does wonders on grease and oil residue, but won't do much for any corrosion. A medium firm brush like a wheel brush seems to work best. Rinse with water first, spray on a strong solution of Simple Green and start scrubbing. Be careful around sensitive electronics, cover where needed. I use a garden sprayer to rinse with to better control the spray.

Diesel Power Products has your fuel rail for $316.00 US. Geno's garage has it too.

Picked up some Simple Green today, figured id get the pressure washer stuff as whatever I don't use I can use on some equipment. How much do people dilute this stuff? I read the label and it says about 2 cups to 1 1/4 gallon of water. I'd probably just do 50/50 and see what happens.

I'll try and clean up the fuel rail and just replace lines when I do injectors in the fall, hopefully.

I'm very cautious about water on my truck, I had a 5.3 vortec that had no start after cleaning, about $400 later it started.

Thanks guys.

Simple Green Ratio

I typically use a 50/50 ratio on a real dirty engine but found it doesn't really need to be that strong. I've had to use a 25/75 ratio when I was running low and it seems to work as well.

I agree with not using water, seems like a bad idea with electronics in the engine bay.

I have replaced the #4 injector line with the updated one and I feel like it is much better than what was previously there. Would be nice to upgrade to a 6.7 rail and lines but it is not necessary.

Did you get that price from a cummins dealer?

Yea I got the price from the dealer for the rail which isn't that bad I guess, but I figured the lines wouldn't be cheap either. I planned on using a spray bottle to make it easier.

Windy Saturday and rain all day Sunday so looks like I'm doing it next weekend :frown2:
