i have a 98.5 . today i had a mechanic install a tri pod of gages, pyromoter, boost, trans. also i had installed a fuel pressure gage. i'm not sure where each is suppose to be hooked up at. the readings i'm getting seem either to high or to low. example- at 60 mph. my exhaust temp. is at 800. seems to high. my fuel pressure idles ai 10 psi. when at 60 mph. it's at about 5 or 6 psi. i've up graded my lift pump to 15-18 psi. also have replaced injection pump. just dont know what are normal readings.

What kind of pump do you have and how do you know it is set a 15 -18 psi? Also, when was the last time you changed you fuel filter....you have a lot of pressure drop a cruising speed. I lose about 2 psi cruising.

Do you have original fuel lines in or have they been upgraded to larger diameter.

Is your gauge mechanical or electric? Give us some more info.

your egt is the same as mine...im at 600 to 800* on the pyro between 60 and 65. as for your fuel pressure, the "rule of thumb" kinda is that at idle it shouldnt drop below 10psi and at WOT it shouldnt drop below 4 psi...or cruising for that matter. I got a fass 95 on the truck in my sig, and i got between 14 n 17 psi will cruising. doesnt drop to much for me when i get on it.

but i agree with kybel, give us some more info, what kind of pump etc? this will help us narrow down whats going on n to help you "diagnose" your truck.

sorry to get back so late. my pump is vp44 pump. dont know the make. it did come from salt lake city. my lift pump is from O'reilly's auto parts. my gages are auto meter {phantom}, and are electric. original fuel lines as far as i know.
im willing to be thats your fuel pressure problem right there. you need a DIESEL lift pump (fass, airdog, raptor, ext.). most pumps they sell at parts stores wont keep up with the fuel demands of a stock diesel engine.

sounds about normal the lp is probably a holly blue i would guess and while ur pressure should be a little better its not that far off. I read on here a while back that you could take the pump apart and and lightly sand the shaft or somethin like that with a .... somethin er nother cloth, cant really remember. I never did it to mine casue i get about 12-13 at idel an 6-7 at wot.
800 seems alittle high to me mines at 5-600 cruising an will run up to 8-900 if i hammer on it.

your egt's should be taken in the exhaust manifold. your fuel pressure should be taken at the vp44 inlet.

your egt's seem a little high. im running big injectors on a hx35 aned my egt's are 600* or under at 60 mph.

your fuel pressure is low. 18-19psi at idle is ideal, and 10psi is the min you want to run at wot.

fill out your sig so we know what you got

THE STOCK PUMPS AND STOCK REPLACEMENT PUMPS ARENT VERY GOOD. SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET A FASS OR AIRDOG AND YOUR WALLET AND INJECTION PUMP WILL THANK YOU.

:agree2::agree2:Put a FASS or AIRDOG on it. They're worth the $$. Your mileage will go up and your VP will last. Not to mention you'll have the fuel for future mods.

well, thanks for the info guy's. come to find out, my lift pump is out. O'reilly's will honor the pump however, guess i'll bite the bullet again & get the fass pump. i'm gona have a new truck. i've had the transmission rebuilt. it will take up to 700 lbs of torque. i know that may not sound like much. brand new rearend, everything except the axels. seems that the front end has been giving me fit's. the tract bar & tie rods need replaced... just replaced them last fall. been told that's a weak point in them. and i'm really carefull how i drive.{no abuse}. again, thanks for the input.
