I'm gonna be doing a turbo upgrade and am wanting to know what you guys have run as a single and what you would reccomend. I'm either goin with a S366 or S400 sumthing.

I'll be running 120 nozzles, stage 3 or bigger CP3, airdog, and all the other supporting mods to go along with it.

I'm looking to make around 7-800 rwhp. I don't do any towing/pulling. Mostly daily driver and to the track a few times a year. I won't be running any nitrous. Will be using either a smarty or blackmaxx for tuning and possibly a pressure box.

Thanks, Wil

with the said fueling mods, id look at the 400, or a modded 366

what were your drive pressure like, not sure of the exact specs on these two chargers

:confused013: I dont know.

I have ran 2 different s366's and then the s400

1st s300 66/71/14 non gated t4 spooled good but ran kinda hot up to 1400* on the street.

2nd s400 64/74/.9ar non gated t4. Ran about like the 1st one but a bit cooler 1200* and less boost.

3rd s300 66/74/14 gated t3. Spools great stays decently cool 1200* or so on the street, and plenty of boost.

I've been talking with Chris at E.D. and he's saying the 66 would be the easiest to install, but he can make the 400 spool just as fast an make bigger power but be more involved in the install.

With those fuel mod's, I would say S468-S472. The S475/.83/.1.00 was just a little slower spool than stock with my fueling. When it came on, it felt like you got rear ended. The 478 I'm running now will turn the tires over, on dry pavement, at half throttle:shock:

I don't have a problem going up in fuel mods as I haven't bought the nozzles yet. The biggest I wanna go is around 200s but those might still be a lil smokey for me. I was trying to be a lil conservative with tha mods but I may just go bigger. Aint nothin wrong with a fast dually right???

Even with the extra air a 6.7 moves the s300 is still gonna spool better and be more fun to drive. Not saying the 6.7 wont run a s400, but it is still gonna be slower than the s300.

I've ran stock charger, 66/480 twins, 475 single, and now 478. Black's diesel's race truck was 5.9, with way more fuel and a 475. It is a dog on the street, smokes a lot, and only leaves hard when you launch at high boost. I've driven both. Not trying to argue, but it's still apples & oranges.

Edit:66/71 as a single before the twins

that would be like putting a standard geometry hx35 on a 6.7,.....USELESS.

Just Borg Warner numbers

s472 is a s400 frame and a 72mm inducer on the compressor.

s366 is a smaller s300 frame with a 66mm inducer on the compressor.

Both come in a variety of different turbine wheels, and turbine housings with different a/r ratios (cm^3) or gated or not, as well as t3, t4, or t6 housings.

Oh I gotcha, was it that big a deal to mount up tha 400 on your truck? An who'd you get tha 478 from?

Thanks, Wil

Nice, thanks bud. I'll be talkin with you more when I get mine in, I'm still shoppin around with the turbo builders decideing on which brand to go with.

RAN07' Was your truck pretty much stock with the 66/71? how did you like it? And I cant believe you are running a 3 piece manifold I figured you would have a better flowing 1 piece...

When i called bullseye this week and talked to them i was told to get a 66-74-14. This was by their diesel guy and cant recall his name. I also told him id be running 200hp nozzles and other fueling mods and still said to get this. IDK why but my gut tells me i should listen to him cause he does it every day

When it comes to this stuff, I would listen to RAN' 07. Aron has been there and done that with his truck. With his current fueling setup and the S478.....WOW is all I have to say. I never would have thought his turbo would light so fast leaving a stop sign in 4wd with absolutely no spool up time on the brakes. It was scary how quick his truck got to about 65-70 MPH.....and I wasn't even in it. Hell, at the track it takes no time for him to spool it up and it runs so clean during spool up and down the track. The 6.7 definitely has no problems moving air.

It may not be the case but even though they say their "diesel" guy, he may not have the first hand experience with a 400 charger on a 6.7, I personally am takin Ran07 advice and goin with the 400

Yeah i kinda thought that but i tried and gave the guy the benifit of the doubt cause he does do turbos everyday. Its kindaq dissapointing cause youd figure hed know whats the best. Maybe ill still get the s366 and put a large 400 for the low psi turbo in a twins setup:thumbsup:

Hell yeahman go for it!! Seems like no one on here runs garretts:thumbsup:

A truck here in town runs a 3788 and its nice. I figure a GT45 to 55 would be pretty sweet.

I was doin a little lookin and it apprered that they didnt come gated. Maybe i was lookin at the wrong ones but if it didnt i assume youd have to run a external gate

I haven't talked with Bullseye but I'd assume it would be Bill Devine. He's been a turbo guy for a LONG time. Was 1 of the 1st guys running turbos on a 5.0 back when it was getting started.

I have a s480 on my pulling truck that I will be putting on my 6.7 soon as I do a manual tranny swap, right now it has a 71mm bushing in it, so I will try it both was and see how it does, with out the bushing it will probably be alittle laggy.

I dont know what one to go with though between the steedspeed and stainless diesel thogh. Seem pretty similar and the same prices.

Arron you remind me of a guy i know that has a 12v. He runs a aftermarket turbo non gated not sure which one. Puts 70psi of boost to it running not studs tows all the time of 15,000lb+ puts 520hp to the ground and has no studs never blow a HG just a water pump locked up once friom 300,000 miles of wear. His and your truck defy all odds:thumbsup: I wish mine could do that but i bet ill blow it up or something.lol

Ran '07 THANKYOU for telling me about forced inductions!!! I talked with them this morning an they where very helpful. Speced me out a S400 66/83/90 and said it would do everything I wanted. Also I'm looking at a GT4294 that'd spool faster than the 400 but it comes at a much higher price. He said i could go bigger but might be laggy to him. But he said if it didn't bother me then he could do a 472/83/90 or slightly larger

Oh and the price on both of these turbos threw FI  Damn good deal!!!!
