What would be the best programmer to buy for the best MPG ? Anyone?

Best way to increase mileage is to keep your foot out of it. But I would look at the quad as you can better dial in the settings.

Honda. Geo. Prius.

Or quadzilla.

There you go. Now go look in the performance parts section and read every single page of the quadzilla adrenaline V2 beta thread.

Do you already have anytype of tuner ?

I currently a SC tuner, and dont romp off to every light.
I can manage about 18 around town with some playing, and roughly 22 on a nice drive.

That said, i am going tonpurchase a quad as i want a wire tap box for some additional power, but to justify the saving over the current box, it would take a while...but if you are buying it for the first time, go quad.

Being I'm on the beta team for the Quadzilla and trying to work my magic on getting a high MPG tune built. I can say for sure that injector size and mods will have a direct impact on how much timing your require at cruising speed to make good MPG's. Like @me78569 is running 19-20* of timing and I'm running 17-18* of timing. When I attempted to run the same as @me78569 it actually pulls my MPG down.

More timing is not always good for economy tuning. Being that Quadzilla is the only wire tap tuner with user adjustable timing I would say Quadzilla is your best bang for your buck being when you compared HP per dollar you'll still find Quadzilla is the cheapest tuner yet.

Screenshot of my phone of timing settings... Cruise timing right now I'm running 2.5*

Better question would be, what are you wanting to achieve? Maybe that would help the forum understand what you should look for.

Thanks guys for all the responses. I read about a one ton dually a few years back in diesel power magazine getting 32 mpg on the highway empty... I'd like to hit 30 mpg on the highway empty and it should be easier being I have a 3/4 ton single axle. I'm building a highway truck to go to California and back repeating... Should I consider selling this truck, and getting one with a 5 speed?

I remember that magazine article..... We've talked about it a few times on these forums too. Where they took a 2wd dually and basically made it completely impractical, while driving impractically, in attempt to get the most fuel mileage possible. It was a fun read but thats about it.....

The best fuel mileage anyone will get with these trucks is typically around 16-18 around town and 20-22 mpg on the freeway. Thats real world driving in traffic doing at least the speed limits. You can squeeze out maybe 1 or 2 more mpg if you try hard, but really the only way to get more out of them is to reconfigure programming and fool sensors into running false parameters. But good ol' fashion mild right footed driving is still necessary as well.....

I believe Moparman is the reigning champ for fuel mileage, so if you're truly interested in getting the most fuel mileage possible in real world situations, do what he says.

My best hand math record MPG is 27.2 MPG. Really hard to reach the 30-32 MPG bracket.

30 is going to be a pretty hard number to hit. But I think you would have a better chance with the manual. What rear end gearing do you currently have and what else has been done to your truck.

If you got oversized tires or lift kit those have to go. You'll have to light up the rotation mass as much as possible, cut your wind drag down, and keep your speed down too.

Here's his thread on his quest for mileage

https://mopar1973man.com/topic/12279-quadzilla-adrenaline-economy-and-mpg/

The Quad will hand down get the best mileage you can simply tell it how much timing you want at cruise, without effecting the rest of your tune.

What I have found is mpg follows timing VERY closely. If your truck likes to sit at say 18* at cruise state but you pull that down to 16* mpg will drop like a rock. It really doesn't take much to make MPG start falling fast, even 1* of timing in either direction from the sweet spot causes a very noticable difference.

I would recommend a Jetta over a ecodiesel. Why get 30 when you can be getting 50-60+.

You guys are lucky I'm excited to see over 15mpg on the highway or in town and I never drive my truck hard either but I didn't buy a 7000# truck for fuel economy

Seems like you could pretty easily do better.
My hand calculated (not from the overhead "lie-o-meter") average on my last tank was 15 mpg and that was pretty much all slugging to work and back in horrible rush hour traffic, in a 4x4 dually. That even included about 50 miles in 4-Hi in the snow.

Way off. I don't even look at it.
Always calculate your own MPG, the overhead panel thing is very well known as entirely unreliable.
And if you've made any mods at all, it's completely moot.

My overhead says 30+ mpg. Actual is in my sig.

I personally like the Smart S03 tuner. Then again I'm biased and have only had this tuner so far. I went from about 19MPG to 22MPG on the highway. Has timing added so it also has a bit of get up and go on the fuel saver mode when you need to pass or have a bit of fun.
