What Does Uconnect actually do?

So I will admit I have not really dug into the Uconnect system much, but I am not sure how or what it actually does or if I really need to pay for the subscription.

So what does it actually enable?

I use my blue tooth and hands free system for phone calls. I listen the Sirus Radio. I do not use my phone to do anything else like remote start, locks etc. I do not use the WIFI Hot Spot at all, as I was told it would use up my cell phone data. I do like the idea of having WIFI access through my truck but ot on my expensive data plan.

My truck does not have GPS etc.

So what exactly does the Uconnect do that i would like? Does the access include a data plan that would not eat up my phone data?

Based on what you just described, it would not be worth it to you.
You need a subscription to do the wifi hotspot, but that is also an additional fee on top of the Uconnect fee. However, it does not use your phones data.

Just going off of memory from my free trial, it allows for the remote start and lock/unlock via the phone app, it gives you the ability to make emergency calls and contact Chrysler via the buttons on the rearview mirror, add the Wifi hotspot (extra $$)...and some other features with voice texting. I don't recall the rest.

GREAT QUESTION! I paid for this option too and I don't have a clue what it is or what it does. Someone posted "remote start from my phone app" ??? This works on a tradesman? Sign me up! How do I set this function up?

You subscribed to Uconnect without knowing what it does?

The best answer I can give you is to read your manual, but in short, you have to create an account with Uconnect, download the app to your phone and then you have to go through some kind of activation process on your touch screen. That's as much as I can remember....again, read your manual.

Ahh, I see.
I don't know what the current offerings are but on my 15 (purchased one year ago), it came with the 8.4A and it came with a 6-month free trial. I've heard the 8.4AN's have a 1-year free trial. I do not know what is offered on the systems below the 8.4A's.

You should sign up for your free trial soon, since if I recall correctly, you had to either sign up within 30 days....or at least your free trial would start 30 days after you took delivery and the clock would start ticking at that point, but again, only if you signed up.

Wifi does not use your phone plan data. You buy a day, week or month and you get 3G data from Sprint's network. I don't recall seeing a data limit and I think you can buy the wifi access outside of the uconnect subscription. Steaming music through the uconnect access app, does use data from your plan. You'll still have the ability to use the streaming without the subscription.

I had the free trial when I bought my truck and unless you have WiFi limitations on your phone its not really worth it. Plus its only 3G service which is slower than most peoples cell phones already.

I'm assuming it is, but all of the above is for 8.4 only, right? Not 5.0?
