I have a D-tech 64/65/12, its a very solid turbo ive had it about 3 months now and was trouble free until last sat night. I did a few runs at the drag strip sat night, boosted 4wd launches and my truck/turbo ran great. I made one last past and decided to call it a night i parked my truck and left it running for about 10mins to cool down the EGT's, then me and my buddy got on the highway and i noticed a very odd howling sound from the turbo? almost like it wasn't getting any oil so i thought maybe i blew a hose to one of my oil return lines so i pull over check for leaks or anything and pull the intake off and check for any shaft play etc, everything seems good. I pull back out on the highway and the noise is totally gone and hasn't done it since? What do u guys think is going on exactly, could it be just a few back to back runs was making it on the hot side and then the cool night air just cooled it down?

I would pull the downpipe off and see what the back looks like. Could be bearings worn out and skimming the walls.

D-Tech gave you a warranty with that turbo, if the warranty is still in effect, contact them about your problems. A high pitched squeal, especially when cold, can be something as simple as one of your ic boots leaking on either the hot side or cold side, or at the turbo. Since you took some stuff apart to inspect the turbo and the noise stopped, it IS possible that when warm you got the boot clamp tight, when cooled down you could have a leak. I would start there. Also, you could have a crack/leak in your intercooler, you may have to pressure test the intercooler to find a problem there. The smaller the leak, the higher pitched the squeal/scream/noise, so it it is kind of a screaming squeal type noise, it could be a loose clamp.

i will check it out i did notice my shock tower was rubbing against the turbo boot. I did some testing around tonight and i did a WOT run, after i let out of the gas it made the howling again but a few secs later i accelerated normal and it went totally away? weird.

Yup a small hole will cause a high pitched squeal! I have had to deal with that a couple times.

yeah, i really hope this is the problem. I called the dealer near my house and they want $128 bucks for that stupid hose:shock:! i told them i would have to be an idiot and hit by a train a few times before i would pay that much. Guess im going to buy BD's silicone setup for $199 it's rated for 75psi i believe and i only make 40psi so i should be fine.

Yeah BD's will be fine.

OR what you can do is go over to a hose/fitting shop and get a 3" stick of hose for like $10-15. I have that on my bottom turbo and I have never blown that hose - they are really strong!
