Wanting to add OEM remote start

I have a 2006 and I am wanting to add a OEM 2 way remote start system to my truck, why OEM you might ask and not aftermarket? I like the way the OEM style is and to be honest do not feel like messing with aftermarket remote start, plus the OEM is "plug and play" and I can do it in my driveway, yes I have a starscan.

My question is, what all do I need to add a OEM 2 way remote start system to my truck and were can I purchase it at that isn't an arm and a leg, any and all help is welcome!

Well you can find them at http://www.rampartsstore.com/product_info.php?cPath=41_54&products_id=1053, but that is just one part of 3 you need to make it work. All in all you will pay more than $200 for an OEM and it is not certifed to work on diesels. I have seen a thread where someone successfully installed one, but Dodge would not install this in 06. I found it easier to buy an aftermarket RS and interface box.

Thanks for the link man! Did some research and have my mind made up, going to go with this setup, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep Remote Start w/ Keyless Factory Remote will work with diesels as the delay can range from 0-12 sec. Figured set it at 10 sec delay year round and I am good to go, plus no extra key fob! I thought about it and I really didn't want a extra key fob, plus I can install this in a hour, only two grounds to hook up and no starscan is needed. Should go nicely with my flip key, arriving anyday now. Blank Flip Folding Remote Key Shell Case For Chrysler Dodge Caliber 3BT T0074 | eBay

Please keep us updated how it works.

With the key I have, I assume I need to leave a key stored somewhere hidden inside the steering column for it to start. Keep your eye out for that when you are doing your install.

I'm going to time my stuff to see if 12 seconds is long enough. It seems like it takes minutes but that is just my impatient type A self. I'll put a clock on it to find out. I'd really like to have remote start...mostly to save me those 12 seconds as I am walking to the truck...but also in winter to give it a little warm up time.

Will do! Probably a month out getting it, have some other projects going on with the truck in the mean time. Based on the videos and talking to them nothing else is needed and don't have to do anything funny to make it work. Just a simple and clean plug and play remote start.

From looking around most say 10 sec delay is more than enough, others say no need for a delay on these trucks. I am the same way in the summer time hit it a minute before and in the winter let it warm up for 5 mins.

need more parts than the part in the ad u need a new ign switch hood lock and a receiver it is sold as a comp kit for about 225.00 AND has to bbbbb programed by dodge for another 80.00 bucks plus it comes with 2 keys and 2 remotes:blues:
Correct for the OEM system to be added, not going that way anymore.

I presume this comment was in response to the post from "opelap" about the product from RamPartsStore. Not the post from DesertRacer.
Correct, for the factory remote start system.

I went to four locksmiths and none will cut the key as it doesn't fit into there machine, so I am going to give my buddy a ring on Monday and see if he can cut it. A few of them told me to go to the dealer and ask for the key cut, yet with my schedule I do not have time. Iw ill keep you updated on it though!

I question the two grounds installation. I watched the video on the website and that was a tip start truck which you do not have.

On my 06 is was 4 wires and a relay, and that was also using an interface module with a custom harness. That also does not include power for the main unit and the parking lights if you want them to be on while it is running.

You need to power Ign, Start, ACC, and apply about 1800 ohms to the mux line to get the truck to start. So unless that unit has a very special harness, you will end up connecting more wires.

I can't see the unit's instructions but you will either need to leave an extra key mounted in the truck or need a security interface. The unit may have one built in that can be programmed.

I stayed away from the factory fob because mine was only good to about 6 feet from the truck. Why do I need a remote start if I have to walk to the truck to get it to work. With my viper, I can get it from about a half mile away, so most of the time if I walk to a window in whatever building I am in, I can get it to start.

Good luck. It was a bit nerve wracking to cut wires in my dash, but it all came together nicely.
I have spoken to the company and they said it is just two grounds, do not have to leave a key in the truck. Everything is all together a few simple plugs to hook up, ground two wires and have remote start. My factory key fob works from a decent distance for me, than again I am just looking to fire the truck up for 1-5 mins before I drive off. Within a month or so I should have there kit in my hand and will let you know how it turns out. I have too many other things going on right now to deal with this.

Great! How did you end up getting the key cut? I ordered 2 flip keys and I'm prepared to file it myself if I have to but I would prefer to get it cut somewhere if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Still awaiting your results with the remote start. That link doesn't have pricing so what did you end up paying for that?

#19 ·
Yes it does unlock, lock, and start the truck. No programming needed, you just take the transponder out of your factory key and install it into the new flip key. Super simple process, took me 2 minutes, if that!

Had it for a few weeks now and working great!

Question. Can remote starts be programmed to start at a specific time? Wondered this since you can get apps for you android

I am not sure, they do sell a setup like that for $450, yet each year you have to pay a service fee which some are $20 a year while others are a $100 a year, I just wanted to have remote start without any extra key fob.

I got 2 flip keys. I was able to get them cut at Lowes. The kid there was reluctant and wouldn't do it if there was a transponder involved, so I just pulled the stock key apart and kept the transponder part in my pocket while he used the key side as the master. He cut the first and it worked fine in the ignition but a bit sticky in the door. I don't use it in the door and I assume it will get easier as it wears a bit. The second I couldn't get to turn in the door or the ignition and I blame that on the skill of the cutter. He didn't charge me since they are really selling keys and I didn't buy one. I ended up tossing the second one which was a waste.

The flip key is slightly cool but in the end doesn't really provide me any additional functionality. I should have paid more attention.

I guess what I was hoping to get out of this was an additional key and this process didn't achieve that because you have to remove the transponder from the original to put in the flip key.

Anyone know where to get a new key including transponder for cheap? I don't really care about the flip aspect. But I want a 3rd so if I lose one or it dies I will still have 2 to program another.
Getting the flip keys cut were a battle, good to have a firend in the field! I should have mentioned it is just a "new" fob with no internals. If you have two factory programmed keys you can buy a uncut key off of eBay with the transponder for ~$50-60 and program the key yourself.

I'd say check ebay, as I only have one key and would like to have to others as well.

And the answer appears to be...
#1 - You buy a shell on ebay (either the flip one or the regular one). This provides you with a key blank that needs to be cut. But it needs the guts to be added inside to give it the electronics and the transponder.

#2 - You buy a used key on eBay. I found one uncut for $10.01 including shipping which would provide you with #1, but there are several that were already cut that you might get for less than that. Then you take the guts out of that and put it in the shell from #1.

If you have less than 2 keys you are going to have to get a dealer to program your new key and this will probably cost real money. So for everyone who has 2 keys....do this now and create a third key while you can do it yourself for free before you lose or damage one of your existing keys.

What year of truck was the remote start and flip key installed on? I spoke to the guy at the autospa ? Place on the remote start, and he made mention he thinks he won't work on my 06, but is willing to send me one to try
Was it easy to install? Also auto or manual trans.?

#30 ·
Desert Racer is this still working good for you? What year did you request? Its only showing 2010-2012 dodge 2500 on the website. Is it just plug and play no hiding keys or crazy wiring?

Thanks,
Jake

I used Fortain Dodge RAM 2007 | Compatible Solutions. EVO ALL and the t harness
It is a plug and play all in one unit. Just press the OEM lock three times to start. But the OEM remote range sucks. So I ended up using an add on remote start just so I could have 2000' range.

Got everything from eBay mypushcart they also sell on their site 1-Button Plug & Play Remote Start for Dodge Chrysler Jeep 2007 & Up

The connection to the truck was still plug and play (lights horn and hood switch are not) but the connection between the Fortain unit and the crime stoppers unit required some wiring.

Thanks Ape! Does this have a wait to start timer or does it start when the grid heater turns off?

#33 ·
Wait to start delay of 10 seconds works great for me. It does have an input for glow plugs but it just not worth the hassle to connect it. And since the heater also cycles on after the engine is running I was not sure what the remote starter would do if it got another glow plug input.

Looks like you have an 06. 05, 06, 07 all have different electronincs so be very carful whT kit you get.

#34 ·
I think the 06 and 07 are the same for the T-harness and the Evo-all. It looks that way on the site? I found it on amazon should be the right one?

Look right to you? The second part of yours is just to make the range further right?

Thanks,
Jake

Your Link is no good. Yes it should work with just the EVO-ALL and the CHR-5 T harness.
I did add the remote start just for the range. This is the guide I used http://www.mypushcart.com/help/PNP-EVO-ALL-T5-MUX.pdf

The EVO-ALL must be programed first as a standalone so make sure you buy it that way or buy the programing cable too.

Configure the EVO-ALL as a Stand Alone Remote Starter: Connect the module to the
FlashLink Updater 2 (sold separately) and use the FlashLink Manager software to enable
option #15 in options menu.
Press the OEM remote’s Lock button 3x to remote-start (or remote-stop) the vehicle.
Follow confection F of this
http://ifar.ca/download/7711/evo-all_thar-chr5_(t-harness).rev-20130219.pdf
manual. This is all plug and play.

Call Fortin as they can tell you how to enable the wait to start for 10 seconds.

Ya one day I will figure out how to post a link haha it may be worth it just to get it from Fortin to make sure its right. But for $80 from amazon its crazy not to look at it! Thanks for the help!
