Venting on some issues with my 2013 Laramie

Just wanted to see if anyone has/had these problems with their '13s

First problem I had from day one is my ESC or traction control light comes on automatically when starting my truck and the message "ESC SYSTEM OFF". I try to press the on/off button but nothing happens. Took it to the dealer and they don't have a clue what it could be.the dealer sent a message to Chrysler to see if they can come up with a solution.

Next problem I've had is with the HVAC system. When sitting in the truck for 5 minutes after it is shut off I have a lot of grinding clicking noises coming from the dash. Not just centralized to one location. Both sides. Here is a link to a video I took of the sounds....

Took it to the dealer, they replaced all the blower door motors and anything possible that could do that. Same day I take it home, the sounds are still present if not louder and longer duration than before. Not only are the sounds still there but now I have what sounds like an air leak somewhere in the firewall. While going 40+mph it whistles and sounds like a window is left open. Very annoying to me. I will be taking it back. And here is a video of the sound. Much louder in person

Next one is with my headliner. I have a sunroof and I'm 6'2 which means I have clearance from the headliner of about 3". So I've been hearing something loose and tapping in the headliner somewhere while driving. Just a rattle while going over bumps. Finally got to looking at it one day because it was hanging about 1" away from my head. S while at the dealer for the above issues they looked it over and decided to replace my headliner. So that will work but it's 3 weeks out on order. So hopefully it doesn't happen again. Here is a picture.

Last for now is issues with uconnect. I love my music and I like it turned up. After the dealer did the update and a upgrade, which I don't know exactly what that is, the volume for am, fm, and Siriusxm is haf the volume it was before. iPod and USB music is still loud and when switching sources from sxm to iPod it pretty much scares the crap out of you because of the difference. I may be exaggerating a little but there is a big difference.

It's a great truck none the less. But I Just wanted to hear your opinions on these issues. I've tried searching but not many issues come up for the 2013s.

Edit***
New problem. I have a fuel leak from on of the lines on top of the fuel tank. Fuel was all over my wheel and tire along with in the wheel wells rear end part of the fender leaf springs and anywhere you could think of!!! As much as I want to love this truck I can't get myself to. First and last ram I will ever buy.

I'd like to think so but they haven't touched the headliner yet. Just the HVAC system and the noise wasn't there before.

Whistle is probably from them not putting the gaskets that seal the hvac and heater lines off where they go out of the hvac box into the engine
I tried looking around the firewall to see where the air is drawn in from. The thing I hate is telling them what I think the problem is and they completely ignore it like I'm an idiot.

are you talking about the gap in the headliner and the sunroof. i have that same thing on my limited and it bugs me because im 6'7" and i can push the headliner up about an inch, plus it bugs me because i can see light coming in around it but the light seals up when i push the headliner up. i want to take it back to my dealer to be fixed but im scared it will come back worse or with something else wrong. just my luck...been there done that...
Exactly I have always seen light around the sunroof. If you look at the picture you can see black patches. Almost like a Velcro but more of an interlocking material. They are supposed to be connected but they won't stay together. According to the service advisor they are going tone taking my windshield out to get the new headliner in. Oh joy! Can't wait for the new problems I will have. I was going to just deal with it because I hate dealer work. Plus all the rattles of taking the interior apart. I don't know how you fit. If I would of saw a non sunroof cab I would of choose it over a sunroof. It just hangs down too low.

Someone had a bad day on the assembly line. That sucks man.

Would have been alot more than one guy.............. one guy is responsible for about 1.5 minutes work on each vehicle as it goes down the line.

I'm 6'5 and I noticed headliner issues on several 13's I test drove that had sunroofs. Seemed like a loose and poor fit around the sunroof opening, and on one truck the surround sound speakers rattled. Pushing on the headliner it seemed flexible.

When I was placing the order for 2014 2500, I thought seriously about not getting a sunroof because of the headliner issues I had seen on the 13's which would bug me to no end. I had a headliner replaced on my 2005 F-350 due to a greasy handprint from a "technician". The Ford dealer put two headliners in and it never was right.

Anyway, I did go ahead and order the sunroof and it appears they changed the materials and design for MY2014. It fits tight up to the roof and the material/shell feel solid and does not bend. Peeking into the gap by the sunroof, the sunroof brackets look different. We had a loaner 2013 3500 to drive while the cab was being re-aligned on my new truck and it was obvious RAM changed the headliner setup.

RAM obviously had issues with this and fixed it for MY2014, so take it back to the dealer and make them fix it.

Mine also makes creaking vent closing sounds.

My truck makes all that weird sounds also. I have no clue what it is. Taking it dodge once my build is done. Really weird thou like you said from ever where in dash also.

Did they replace the housing and bulkhead silencing pad seal? They are located behind the glove box? The noise posted sounds like what I had before the warranty repair.

On my 2013, they replaced the housing and seal. Fixed the noisy A/C. Took several hours due to their location. Quiet now and good to go.

Pretty sure this is your fix.

I'll run it by them and see what they do, thanks!

Most times height is in the legs. I am 6'6 and have a 40 inch inseam.
Yea for sure. It took awhile to find the best seating position but I think I got it now lol. Just have to be forward just so my knees are a couple inches from the dash and recline the seat back to keep my head lower without having to slouch as much.

My 2010 had a weird whistle like that and it was the HVAC door not shutting/sealing properly. I would start driving and at around 30-40 it would whistle. I finally found that if I pushed the recirc button for a few seconds and then again to turn recirc off it would stop. You could hear the door moving and then the whistle would stop after the door shut. Not wanting to deal with the dealer I did that annoying button push trick for a year and finally fixed it by getting my 13:hehe:

As for head room. I am 6'0 and hate how close the headliner is to my head with the sunroof. My seat is all the way down and I have about 1-1/2-2'0 max clearance. How are you ok being two inches taller? I don't want to even know how the 6'7" guy does it:shock:

The volume issue after updating, seems to be a somewhat common issue. Mine did the same thing.

My Alpine system sounded good for a factory system when I got it. Now, the 5.0 system in my loaner sounds better than the Alpine, and doesn't have to be turned up as much, to get the same volume level :confused013:

#15 ·
Same here my loaner sounded much better with the basic stereo.

#16 ·
I want to add on top of all these problems there were 3 recalls that we're updated along with 4 rrts?

#27 ·
I've checked it all. Turned it back on and it's still half the volume it was before. Thanks

Boy, you've done a real nice job illustrating the issues! I hope they either fix all this crap or give you another truck. My truck has been absolutely perfect and its nice to have what we paid for...you deserve that too!!! Good luck my friend.

Thanks. I hop so too. It really is a nice truck and it's what I need right now.

I know brother. I absolutely avoid and use dealer service if there is no other recourse.

As I was typing the previous response and just read yours, I thought to myself how absurd that things have gotten to be this way. That we spend the $$$ money we do on these expensive and complicated trucks, and yet most of us are afraid of the incompetent service of our selling dealers.

.....and we keep coming back for more. I am just as guilty as anyone......yeesh.

** Edit ** There are plenty of good dealer techs out there, but, the consistency of getting good service is hit and miss.....and IMHO it is like this with most makes.

This kinds of dealer ineptness isn't good news to me. I traded in my '06 Silverado 3500 D-Max for a new Ram because of all the problems I had with it and dealer mechanics mis diagnosing the problems. We are full time RV'ers and are at the mercy of dealerships that we know nothing about when we are on the road. Had trouble in Amarillo, TX with two dealerships mis diagnosing a no start problem saying that my injectors were bad. Cost me $6000 for new injectors and that wasn't the problem at all. Brought it to an independent diesel shop and the found that the fuel filter housing was warped causing it to suck in air and loose my prime. The kicker is I told the second dealership to check for air in the fuel because that's what several people on the D-Max forum said was the problem. The D-Max doesn't have a lift pump and it pump works on vacuum.:banghead:

I've always wanted to say this but have bitten my tongue (or tied up my typing fingers) until now.

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with the teething issues you guys are having with the 2013 trucks. There, I said it.

Hey, I was stupid enough to buy a 1st year Ford 6.4L and every year was a teething year. None of the issues with the Ford ever got worked out. They only got worse.

Hope things get worked out for all of you.

I wonder what % of ALL trucks produced have problems? Mine does not. Another post here had LOTS of posts saying they had no problems.

You do hear about those that do. Rightly. But, I bet the vast majority do not.

#36 ·
I tried the recirc trick for a few months but it was hit and miss.

To solve it, they did have to remove part of the dash but replacing the housing and seal behind the glove box did fix the problem. Put a little extra sticky on the seal to be sure.

No one probably lives on a "road" like mine. No rattles and no A/C whistle.

Credit to my fine dealer diesel tech. He's the best.

That's awesome man. I love my new ram. It just gives me a bad feeling kinda like I just bought a brand new truck with a salvage title. I know it's not and I'm sure these issues will be resolved.

Thought I would share this... Just looking around under the hood tonight and there is a electrical plug that's 6 inches coming out from the clutch fan assembly. We'll there is a clip to hold it up out of harm from the pulleys and belt. We'll not mine. The plug was laying down on what I think was just an idler pulley. It's a real cheap vinyl push lock tab that holds this harness up on the bracket. I ended up using a zip tie to keep I up. Might wanna check yours all out. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow in the daylight.

Anybody have their MY13 sagging headliner/sunroof rattle successfully fixed yet? I'm only 6'00" with a shaved head and consistently brush up on the headliner. The rattle is really irritating while driving or whenever you're stuck in traffic next to a rumbling big rig. I do find the rattle is minimized when the sunroof shade is left open.

#47 ·
I stopped by the dealer today and my replacement headliner was finally delivered. So I should be getting that in early next week. Hopefully! I'm hoping that the new headliner has a fix somehow so that this issue doesn't happen again.

As for that rattle if it's not the tabs that hold the headliner to the roof then it's a sheet metal piece that your sunroof visor slides over when opening. I don't know why or how but when I reach in and hold it the rattle goes away.

Sadly it's not just dealers techs. People in general, especially the younger generation, just don't give a crap about other people stuff...

I'm 52, and my dad taught me at a young age, to not only respect my elders and hold doors open for women, but to also respect other peoples property.
My son is 16, and he has been taught these values from a very young age.
It's sad that most of the kids he goes to school with, haven't been taught the same values.
It's hard when their parents don't have the values though. It's an "All about me" society now

You guys bring up good points. I was raised the same way.....country boy, good core values, the golden rule, right and wrong, and common sense. Unfortunately for all of us, most people under 30 these days are clueless.

My kids are in college now, raised the same way I was, and as I get deeper into my late 40's, I realize that one of the main things I like about diesel trucks are the other owners. Some guys drive these trucks for their livelihood, some are farmers, some are ranchers. Other guys haul their toys or just drive them because they are politically incorrect.

Whatever the case, over the past 15 years I have owned various makes and models of HD trucks, and in that time, I have not run into many downtown Chicago, urban metro-sexual, progressive relativism types driving these trucks........I like that. I deal enough with those types at work, and the older I get, the closer I get back to my roots......neck getting more red all the while.
