Neon Crower springs that Smeding reboxes1.38" 118.5#, .960" 251.5# Coil bind .924"
Hamilton 103# springs 1.38" 104.5#, .960" 181.5# Coil bind .817"

Im not understanding how the hamilton would be less likely to bind. Other the the poundage of the spring rate the springs seem to be the same. Is it in fact the spring poundage that causes them to bind faster?? I'm sorry if I missed something Im just not understanding.
Smedings NEW springs are NOT crowers. I have a set of both on the shelf. I can run tests for seat pressure and coil bind on both next week if you'd like.

Rivey did you happen to run some tests on those springs??
I did not have enough interest in it. The Crowers are black and the Smedings are bare so not the same. I threw a set in my truck last week. Stock springs are 80 lbs at installed height btw.

With this being said I take it as smedding springs and a 188/220 cam are probly not the safest thing to run

I'm sure it's been done but I wouldn't run the 188/220 on stock pistons. Seen too many stock engines where valves have made contact with that "drop in" cam. If you want to spend 3-4 times $ on other springs, go ahead. Lol.

How many miles and what kind of abuse? I've put close to 20k miles on my set with 50psi boost and 4000rpms on a regular basis.

I make over 100 psi boost, 5400 rpm, 1150+ hp, 2 years of driving on those springs and not a single issue. I'm sure they'd replace one if it you broke one and wasn't an install error.

Robert what cam do you have? Would, for example, a 188/220 be safe with these springs? I'm about to do a rebuild and it would be a shame to put the stocker back in. I called smeding for 2 weeks to finally get them to answer. Said they'd call me back and never did.

I don't live near Smeding anymore but still have contact with them. With the new cnc machines, etc, they can be harder to get a hold of.
I'm running a stock cam. Smeding offers 2 different springs if you talk to them. Their newest ones are 104 lb seat pressure.

Cpl hundred miles since install still hasn't driven it hard letting them get broke in was pro @ 12-1500 rpms wen one broke going Hamilton and if u wld talk to Hamilton about coil bind and can lobe pressure you would too
Spellcheck is your friend.....

Altered Diesel Wurks has a nice dual spring setup I'm going with on the race engine. Custom cam and 5500+ rpms is the plan.
