Hello all, I recently purchased my first ‘95 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 12 valve with 206k miles. I’ve already made some additions/modifications/repairs (tires, brakes, grill, headache rack and I have completely camo’d the inside). I have modified the afc/fuel plate and installed a new ofv. When I bought the truck it was extremely slow/no power. It has improved somewhat but it’s still very sluggish. Is this normal for this year truck? Love the forum!

Boost gauges?

GSK usually makes huge difference in my experience. Don't get the PacBrake kit either.

3K GSK
#10 fuel plate
Adjustable boost elbow for the turbo
Crank up the star wheel a bit (I think this is pre-boost fuel?)

It's been a long time since I had a 12v so i can't remember if its actually called the star wheel....

Pre-boost is the adjustment on the back of the AFC.

From the "Beginners Thread"

"-On the back of the AFC there is a little cover (you'll know what I'm talking about when you read that AFC article up there) that covers the pre-boost fueling adjustment. (Note: Some refer to this as the "Smoke Screw.") Its proper function is to allow a set amount of fuel in to light up the turbo, and after that point the spring load on the "starwheel" is what determines how fast fuel will come in with relation to boost pressure. Both of these things are adjustable."

The picture is blurred out in this one(thanks photobucket), but you can still see the explanation and colored arrows.

"There are three main tuning aspects.
Pre-Boost, this sets the amount of fuel available before boost is made.
Transient-Boost (AKA star-wheel) sets how fast fuel comes on once boost is being made.
Max Fuel (AKA fuel plate) sets the maximum amount of fuel to be injected."

off topic a bit. Reading the above cited TST instructions, they suggest:

32. Clean debris from threads of air connection bolts, then place a small amount of RTV sealer sparsely on the first 3⁄4 inch of threads, reinstall bolts to their original position and tighten to 18 lb- ft using a 10mm six point socket and suitable torque wrench.

Do you all do this? I didn’t think this could be a source of a leak.

The first things I usually do to a 12 valve are a 4K GSK, fuel plate or AFC live(which ever they prefer) and a little AFC tinkering. That usually wakes them up enough to put a smile on the owners face.
