Turbo Sizing

2012 6.7 turbo I believe is going out exhaust brake only works sometimes, gets super deep exhaust tone when warmed up and very sluggish acceleration when the exhaust tone changes. Sometimes it works perfectly fine as it should. If that is the case I’m thinking of the Smeding 3rd Gen Swap with manifold. I have no clue what size turbo to go with. Everything is stock besides being reduced with a 175hp tune. Truck runs at 36 psi of boost right now. I know it’s a lot for a stock truck. I’m just trying to get help on turbo sizing. Thank You

36 on the stock VGT is at the edge of its map.
36 is easy with the stock cork. You’re measuring its restriction at that point.
You pop a fixed 364.5 with the proper ar sizing, you can do way more with 20lbs of boost because your cfm has increased.
I love my 3rd Gen swap. Was able to keep the OEM intake this way.
Unless you have gearing, Selecting your ar size is more critical to get it moving

I second going with a s364.5 sxe, I'm also running bigger tires and I find the 0.91 ar perfect even with larger injectors

Personally I'd go with the bd iron horn 3rd gen swap as it has a borg warner turbo and not some cheap china internals like the smedding or even the agp turbo 3rd gen swap are a good option

As mentioned you'll do alot more with lower boost pressure now, the fixed vane turbo makes it a whole different truck.
The mid-top end power it will have is incredible and paired with the lower exhaust gas temperatures, drive pressures etc it makes it a more reliable and better suited turbo all around

The s364.5 will top out at 42 psi so you might want to either get a 10 bar map sensor or a boost gauge so you can read boost properly since that's out of the range of the oem 3 bar map sensor

The s364.5 sxe is perfect for stock fuel or even adding fuel to a certain point and still able to tow.

If you know your not going to tow, adding more fuel and want a fun street truck then you might want to consider the s366

Thank you. I’ll be going with the 364 or 364.5. BD Diesel doesn’t ship their iron horn kit to California or I would go with them.

I have the 3rd gen swap on mine with the 366sxe. My exhaust is the .91 and I have 30% injectors, and I can tow just fine. I run it on my 120 tune everyday and let's just say it's fun to drive, but still can tow just fine.

Facts. How my truck feels and behaves on just 10-20psi towing is astounding to me. I have the Smedding S363 kit, local pickup since they are literally 15mins down the road from me. Great guys

I spoke with the guys at AGP when I got a new turbo. You can buy the Borg sxe lineup thru them, or you can buy their lineup of turbo. The AGP lineup is based off the sxe with the same internals, they just have their compressor cover and exhaust housing is what I
My Smedding is the same, despite some folks here not liking Smedding. My kit was excellent. My s363 sxe is borg internals with their front and rear housings to make it fit the factory exhaust and intake. I suspect all the turbo swap kits used are all pretty much the same and the covers are made in the same factory.
