WELL I HAVE RESEARCHED SEVERAL THREADS ON THIS FORUM AND THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON ON THE 3RD GEN COMON RAILS. i HAVE THE SAME 1 - 2 SHUTTLE SHIFT PROBLEM WITH MY 2006. I JUST ORDERED A TRANS GO SHIFT KIT FOR $80 ALSO A NEW AFE TRANS FILTER PLUS NEW PRESSURE SOLENOID AND TRANSDUCER. I ALSO ORDER A NEW DERALE TRANS PAN 3 XTRA QUARTS. WITH THE TRANS SHIFT KIT AND NEW PRESS SOLENOID AND TRANSDUCER ALONG WITH TIGHTENING OF THE FRONT AND REAR BANDS MY SHUTTLE SHIFT SHOULD GO AWAY ALONG WITH QUICKER FIRMER SHIFTS. WHEN I GET MY PARTS AND HAVE THE WORK DONE TO MY TRANS I WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT SHIFTS.

I just bought my truck last week, and it was doing this on after picking the truck up. I dropped the truck off at the dealer this week and they just performed the TSB that was supposed to take care of this issue. When I called to see if it was done today, they said the TSB didn't fix the problem. So they are taking the truck to a transmission shop tomorrow to have it looked at. I'll let you know what they end up doing, and tell ya if it fixes the problem.

The Dodge dealer is subletting your Dodge truck to an aftermarket tranny shop because they can't figure out whats wrong with it? :confused013:

Never in all my years at the dealer did we ever sub out our own product. That's absolutely disgraceful and sad.

If this is true you definitely need to find a new dealer... FAST :bolt:

FYI i ordered my brand new pressure solenoid and transducer on ebay saved $50 to 60 bucks instead of buying from stealership. Tighten front and rear bands, either a shift kit from trans go $80 - $90 or a new vavle body $ 450 - $550 along with the new pressure solenoid and transducer $ 100 - $160 plus labor and problem will be solved. I also ordered the derale trans pan 3 extra quarts with magnetic drain plug from summit $ 90 will keep tranny cooler also makes for easy draining instead of dropping the pan.

i installed my new solenoid and transducer but still no fix still reving high and still doing that shuttle shifting. when i start off slow and just ease on the gas it kindof surges through the gears to get me going. I dont know, i cant afford a new transmission or hell even afford to get it serviced i just got done getting my chevy's transmission rebuilt and that alone was 2k. Why must they make strong engines and mate them with weakass tranny's? Anyways if anybody has other ideas i'm all ears.

thats is what mine is doing also, surging in second an somtimes skips second. thinkin bout adjustin the bands this week and putting in those new regulator an transducer at same time.

tried looking in my chiltons manual for how to adjust TV cable setting but nothing found. can you enlighten me cerberusiam's please.

#17 ·
did you have the front and rear bands tightened. If you did try a new perf valve body. It could be your converter also. How bad did you beat on your tranny.

#18 ·
im not the one to beat on my toys, i have 38 mile round trip to work everyday so i cant afford to break my toys. just trying to get better mileage. i've only checked my rear band but i didnt feel alot of play out of it. wish i could afford a new valve body.

i found in my chiltons how to adjust the tv cable but the thing about is it dosent give good clarity for diesels just gassers. was wanting to know if anyone can clarify how to adjust the tv cable settings on a diesel. thanks for the help.

try a billit pressure solenoid and transducer from suncoast it has more pressure and is supposed to be alot better fix than the stock crap solenoid that will continue to go out. I dont understand why dodge puts all crap parts into there trans with this great engine. I guess they feel everybodys made of money and forces people to pay 5-6 grand on a durable tranny.

I did not buy the truck from a Dodge dealership. I got it from a used car dealership and they had performed the TSB under an extended warranty. I don't know what the transmission shop did, but the truck runs great now.

Im Having my tranny serviced on this upcoming Monday Buy Don @ AAA transmission. I am having my transgo shift kit put in new press solenoid & transducer, New afe filter and derale 3 x quarts pan. Also tightening bands. Will let everyone know how the work turns out. Don @ AAA transmission also had his hands in on developing shift kits for transgo years back and he told me the bands on the 48re are like plastic that I should find an old 60's hemi trans with the steel band and install both trans are 727's will help he said. Also only charging me $250 for my work being done can't bet it.

shaidy do you happen to have the part numbers for those components you said, and where did you pick them up or order them from? thanks

I ordered my press solenoid and transducer from e-bay stock replcement for $105 stealership wanted around $180, transgo shift kit look around on internet and you should find between $60 & $80, afe trans filter kit from xtreme diesel around $27 bucks, derale trans pan you can get from summit for around $82. Make sure you go to a trans shop familar with our crap transmissions. Mine mechanic Don is doing a trans flush and all the above mentioned work for $250 and he's very good he does work on race trans and heavy duty trans on trucks over 800hp also helped with the trans go shift kit development years ago. Thats important to get someone that knows our transmissions. Hope this helps good luck. Also Don @ AAA transmission told me if i can find a old 60's hemi steel band to replace the plastic bands in our junk trans it would help alot. Good luck!

i got my stock replacement solenoid and transducer from transmissionpartsusa.com but they were just oem replacements. appreciate the help shaidy, man if only i had a mechanic that i knew that could do it for the amount that would be awesome. but being in the military every fix it shop around here are after you to steal your money. Had a shop do an oil change a soldiers vehicle well they put a new oil filter on but forgot the most important thing "the oil" so his car seized about a mile down the road. anyways thanks again.

try a heavy duty duty band my trans guy tells that in his race truck applications on high hp trans he uses an old 60's hemi steel band that fits the dodge 727 trans hense 48re he says it will help totally eliminate the shuttle shift he also tells me that stock bands are plastic junk. If you can't find a heavy duty band search the web or send out a thread on this web site. Its a shame these great cummins engines are mated to such a junk stock trans its not enough that you spend 40 to 50,000 on a truck and the trans cannot hold even stock power.

The hemi bands are available but unless you pushing big power they are overkill. The stock bands are pretty good as long as the pressures and shift timing is correct. Much better off fixing the servo, servo cover, and pressure issues.

Won't do a thing for shuttle shift either. Shuttle is shift timing and pressure issues. Band ain't gonna cure that.
