I just had my truck at the dealer today for the G30 recall, and asked them about putting a delete kit on my truck. He said it would totally void the warranty because there is a little black box on the truck that can tell if you have tampered with anything. It stores this information forever. So if you put a chip in your truck and take it out before it goes to the dealer, you're still screwed because it will show up that you put one in and they send your vin to Chrysler.

Find another dealer!!!!!

Yes, the Ecm stores data, but with a fooler the data will remain in good specs. :thumbsup

I called my dealer about doing the delete and he told me the same B.S. thing about "If it was the reason something happened" What a generic answer so my next phone call was to the finance guys and cashed in the warrenty! :$::woot:

Well I went to Vern Laures in New Hapmton, IA. They said it stores in the black box any mods that you do. The fooler box might be ok but what about a chip? He said Chrysler dont got no problem with it but the government does because these mods arent EPA approved so chrysler has to do what the gov tells em and crackdown. Has anyone had a delete kit on and taken it off bc you needed to take your truck into the dealer? Did they notice you had done anyting?

They're a bunch of retards. I guarentee not a single person at the dealership could find the things a chip would modify.

YES, a Cummins tech COULD find things that would "tell" (ie, parameters out of allowance) but they have to get into the ECM and dig....what they told you isn't a lie, it's just they told you to scare you....

Anything you do can be found if they look hard enough. As said many times, you have to pay to play. Doing these mods I assume my warranty is as good as gone. My dealership is retarded and couldnt find there ways out of a paper bag. If something does go wrong thats not obviously from my mods or stupidity i will attempt to get it fixed, but if they deny me the i will just have to pay. Thats the way it goes.

I need to find a dealer like you then. I had hell with my dealer today honoring my warranty. They said if they could prove that my tires caused the tierod to go bad then they would have voided it but they couldn't... But.. they still said they knew that's that screwed it up.. They also told me no other air filter, box, lift or anything or they'll void my warranty. Sounds like I need to find a different dealer. They told me that a AFE air box was the blame for a 06 Cummins motor to go bad because it let in too much dirt.. I call BS..

has anyone got a warranty from someone other then DC? I bought a warrenty when I bought a used pickup and I didn't have to fight with them to much to get work done would this be an option to look into?

Little black box...what a joke. Next thing they're going to tell us is all our financial transactions and accounts need to be watched to ensure our safety.

Oh wait... thats already happening.

The video they sent us said they can see if something was out of a set parameter which can help them if needed to void warranty. My friend is one of the top Dodge tech's in this area and I told him about this and he said he beileves it but has not been trained where to find the information and has not bothered to look for it either.

you guys need to find a different dealership!!! our dealer in town installs chips, gauges, exhausts and such for those that want them to:thumbsup

dads 05 had a EZ awhile back and #5 injector failed.... covered under warranty then we installed a juice/attitude and #5 went again over a year later (from the first time) and it was covered again:woot: both time we left the box installed:T:

Ditto: Many dealerships around here sell and install performance products. My dealership's stance is if the problem was not caused by the add on, it is covered by warranty.

I have an extended lifetime warranty (called Forever Warranty), but the bite is that EVERY service including oil changes has to done at the dealer or an approved ASE Certified auto repair shop....and I have to get every repair or maint not done at the selling dealership pre-approved AND keep all the records, and never miss anything on the manufacturer's main schedule. Yeah, sure. I have no doubt that they will never pay a warranty claim, that they will find that since I failed to change the rear axle lube at 15,000 miles, I lost an injector at 85,000 miles. However, I am thinking that one of the diesel shops in the area is ASE certified (Danville Performance) and he and I might just get to know each other really well and combined, figure out how to beat this warranty game.

I have to get the ax flash done on my truck yet, and the service manager called me and said I need to disconnect my edge before they do the tune because "they" didn't want to screw up the program on the truck. They have been pretty cool about things that I've had on the truck. Doing the dpf delete tomorrow, so we'll see what they have to say about that. But I told them I'm doing everything in my power to gain extra mpg, and they said they don't blame me.

#23 ·
I wish my dealer said that. They kept telling me that theres no way in hell i could do this stuff because it would stay in computer forever, well if they cant even get to the computer to check if you've done something, i might as well do the delete right? The fooler box takes care of everything?

#24 ·
hey i had a superchips flashpaq on my truck and the check engine light came on, p2262 (turbo boost not detected) i flashed it/put it back to stock and their replacing the turbo!!! they didnt notice the programmer all the "black box" does that their are saying is that the ecm will remember key cycles (each time you started your truck) and how many times its been reprogramed, when i set it back to stock the key cycle went to zero and the dealer could see that it was reprogramed but they cant proove anything either and another way to get out of it is say "cleared voltage" (taking batary cables off for a certain period of time and draining all power)

#25 ·
So whats the deal with the "cleared voltage" now? Take the cables off and let the battery wear down? how would this help?

#27 ·
my dpf clogged and the dealer suggested the h&s delete to me. gotta love it up here!!

There is some truth to the little black box. To my understanding in the pcm there is a datalogger that is readable by the cummins computer not the dodge computer. If they beleive the problem is tuner related they have to send in the computer or take it to a shop with a cummins scanner. Then they can void your warrenty so removing things for dealer trip is a good idea. This isn't solid info I used to be a dodge tech and worked mostly on cummins I havn't worked there for 4 years now. I can tell you this when there is a problem with a cummins the tech usually goes threw hell with stars getting parts chrystler really doesn't like giving free parts. Just an interpritation of how i understand the new dodge pcm works.

This is why the MP8 is so appealing. It doesn't modify the ECM, it modifies the signal between the ECM and the engine. I had a Quadzilla in my 04 and it was not detectable at all. They didn't know until I told them.

I've seen the data in the "Black Box". It stores the number of starts, Highest RPM, Average MPG, and somehow can tell if you've been towing. It stores the oil change intervals for at least the last 3. I think I saw the highest speed in there too.

The 04 did the same thing. As I understand it, the 07.5 uses the same ECM as the 04 does. I heard it was changed for 08.

Oh the secrest they keep

I assure you there's more info than that! They can see EXACTLY how much fuel each injector is dumping, etc...there's a lot of info stored in the ECM...

So if i get an MP-8 and the new delete kit thats code free, if i just remove that stuff before going in the dealer i should be ok right? Doesnt the delete kit help your motor and make it more reliable anyway?
Has anyone had to go to the dealer for whatever even tho they got a delete kit and chip, egr etc.?
