I had an 06 Dodge mega cab 4x4 dually auto but with only 30,000 miles 5 transmissions still wouldnt stay in so I traded and got a new truck exactly the same just an 09 with the 6.7 and new tranny. I am only getting 7 to 9 miles per gallon. I just returned from a 450 mile trip, no ideling just 70 to 75 mph straight forward "old guy" type driving and got and hand calculated average of 7.65mpg. Dodge dealers say that the way its going to be. I asked about doing the deleats and they made it real clear it VOID the warrenty. Is this crappy MPG's really what I have to deal with?? If so, I think I am going to trade for a Ford V10.

Wow your mileage is way off. I get 18-18.5 on the highway unloaded at about 75mph just a tad before 1800rpm. That's the sweet spot for my truck. In town will very because of my foot but normally 13-15. Mine is an 08 2500 4x4 quad cab with 33's and a K&N drop in.

That is terrible mpgs I get about 14.5-15 hwy and I run 38's unplug ur egr see if that works abit do the deletes that helps alot

I thought mine was bad.... thats not right. You should at the very least be getting almost double that if that was mostly highway driving.

I've got an 07.5 1 ton dually 2wd, 6 spd manual, and i get 8-10 mpg pulling a 40' gooseneck fully loaded back and forth from Texas to California. I've only run through one tank of fuel without the trailer, and i got 17.5 mpg on the highway.

Could your truck be stuck in a regen? When I was stock the only time I saw mpg that bad was during regens.

the mileage does seem low however it is still new. Mine was getting about 10 mpg for the first few months, I think I'm up to 15-16 now. I also notice mileage over 70 does drop off quite a bit too. Are you able to try a different dealer? I would think you should be getting at least 12 or better in a dually.

something definitely wrong

I don't think I got that low even when towing 12k new when I was all stock. Unloaded, all stock I see low-mid 13's.
I would keep hounding the dealer until they fix it. How many miles on it now?

Jeff.

So at 450 miles with 7.65 Mpg. If you filled up before you left, then you filled up half way, and then you should have been sitting on Empty when you got home. SO you had to fill up three times in this 450 mile trip.

I hammer on my truck alot in city driving. I like to accel and fill the power. I don't spin my tires, so maybe I don't hammer on it that hard. but at the worst I get 13mpg. When came home from Atlanta (1000 miles one way) and total weight was 25,400lbs (jump on the scales to see) I averaged 11 mpg.

Something is not right on your truck.

Never got UNDER 12.8 MPG towing this Airstream travel trailer a few months ago.

Something is waaaaaay off.........

I did have to fill up quite a bit on this short trip. I have 5,543 miles on the truck. 70% of the time pulling a 32 foot gooseneck livestock trailer....get 5 to 6 miles to the gallon. Empty hand calculated I get 7 to 9 if I drive super gentle. Talked to another Dodge tech and he said he thought that was quite in line until I get 40 to 70 thousand more miles on it. That will take me 10 years to get those kind of miles on it. I em checking into a Ford v10 just to see where I would be.

Somethings wrong with your rig... I like the idea someone had, about being stuck in regeneration maybe ? :confused013: All the extra $ that youre gonna spend in fuel is crazzzy. You could delete everything and be your own warranty department alot cheaper than filling it up like you are now. I would check for codes and get the dealer to run some tests on it. I wouldnt let them keep telling you thats normal,,,its not !! I know these newer trucks arent getting as good of mpg as some other years but DAMN your truck really sucks,,fuel that is.

Brand new '10 Crew Cab 4x4 with 410's and I am getting 16+ at 65-70 driving easy.

You need to talk to a service manager and force them to inspect the truck. You paid all that money for the damn thing!!!

My first fill up

Just filled up for the first time after picking up the truck. Hand calculated mileage with some break in runs up a hill or two and I am getting 15.1 mpg. This is combined driving, 35 mile one way commute with three towns to drive through before I get there. Your truck isn't right or you have a size 15 boot. LOL and good luck with your truck/dealer.

Just got my truck a couple weeks ago with 30000 and it averaged 15-16 runnin 40% #1 plus additive in -15 degrees.

pop the hood and check all around the top of the engine, around the EGR tubes, maybe remove the plastic shrouding too and look for soot accumulating somewhere.

I saw this once before a long time ago so unfortunately I can't tell you exactly where to look. Anyway buddy had a leak somewhere in the EGR system cause soot to accumulate on top of his engine (to the passenger side, i remember that) and he was seeing around the same MPG as you. If I had to guess I would say the cross over tube but can't be certain.

I would definatly check for a boost leak or a dirty MAF sensor also. My 5500 gets better than that! Also how is the power? Maybe the butterfly valve is stuck.

IMOP you need to get "mid-evil" with the dealer or contact the reaginal service rep because there is definately something wrong with that truck. I got 13 to 14 mpg with mine from day one when it was all stock and I drive everything "like I stole it". Hope you get some results and sorry to hear 'bout your trouble. Good luck:steam:

Check your truck, I drive 8 miles to work daily on a 07.5 DRW Truck, at 28K miles I get 15.5 to 16 mpg. I started out new at 14 and it has gone up with program improvements.

I get 14-15 empty and 10 with 10,000 lbs

Problem with trying to compare milage on these 6.7's is everyone on this post may have a different flash. There for a time Dodge was comming out with a new one evey couple weeks.

Also my truck is a dually, 4X4, automatic, and all stock.

A truck with a stick, 2 WD, single rear wheel, may do better, I don't know. Either way 7-9 sounds pretty poor for an empty truck. Keep us posted as to what you find...
