Yea I could use less pins but I’m going to run my trans temp and electric fan controller wires through it to so I’ll use most of them , picking the connector up this morning. @black93gt what did you end up doing for the oss?

Don’t forget the pins!

For the VSS I used a Honeywell variable reluctance speed sensor. P/N TM-HAADA
Its a close match to the GM VSS voltage output. The threaded housing allowed me to exactly adjust the gap to my reluctor ring. I simply drilled and tapped the tail housing for it.

I think the TCM is only looking for the frequency change, so a much smaller Hall effect sensor could be a better option.

Yea I found that out ! The firewall connector came with everything but the plug came with nothing ! I’m waiting on that now , I got the destroked sensor but they won’t tell me what the thread pitch is or any kind of instructions so I’m figuring it out for myself. Pretty shitty for spending almost 500$ on the whole kit for the transfer case.

@black93gt I like that sensor might go that route .

Yea they want me to send it in to them , I just want to know the size and do it myself. It has a reluctor wheel , sensor and the clocking ring seals and alll .

Here’s the only pic I got of the sensor , tried those numbers and didn’t get anything, definitely looks the same .

The tone wheel is a machined piece they have made it looks like to me .

I’m going to post here since this is the Allison club…

Where do y’all get your clutches? I’m looking at Xcalliber aka DEFEO. Their kit is $560. I wonder what makes some of the $1,000+ kits so special…

Why am I looking for clutches? Well I’ve been having a rough 2-1 downshift.

When I was swapping the VB, I found excessive (like 3 times) clearance at C5…

I recently pulled the trans and found that this is my C5…

I used xcaliber for my kit , I got everything in mine , the ratiotec , transgo jr and gpz clutch kits . Very thorough kit had everything i needed.

Got a link to the kit you used?

Good choice, what else is done to the trans ?

Not doing too much of anything else. Bought trans with 13,000 miles and I’ve put 30k on it. Hard parts look new.

Only changing some gaskets, C5 piston, and tail housing as I think it’s cracked. Also swapping pump body and valve body to 06-09 style as Jason's tunes are more refined for them. I was the first 2010+ trans control guinea pig… which may be one reason I had a failure…

It's a wonder the transmission even worked as well as it did…

I will admit… I think my failure was mostly attributed to a screw up I made…

I purchased the trans for a cheap $1175 delivered to my door. The transmission was basically new, but it was a 4x4 unit. Thus, I had to purchase an output shaft and tail housing to convert it to 2wd.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware Allison made a major chnage to shaft lube hole size in 2010. This means that 00-09 shafts must be used as a set, and 10+ shafts must be used as a set.

My dumb azz bought an 00-09 output shaft…

I hypothesize that this caused a pressure drop due to the output shaft having a larger lube hole. If you just look at the torn up and bent C5 clutch… it looks mostly dry, which further backs this idea…

So, with that knowledge, I ordered the correct 2010+ output shaft and another tail housing/piston just to be sure.

This document is pretty valuable for Allison 1000 part interchangeability.

Interesting document..

Is this a typo in the document (page 4):

"2014 Gen IV the Allison transmission became an 8 speed."

That document is dated Sept 2014, so perhaps the Allison 1000 was going to be an 8 speed in 2014 but it never happened?

That’s what I thought. I just disregard that info and look at the meat and potatoes lol.

Ouch! Talk about destroyed.
My transmission was about the same price shipped but with 180k… it looked 10,000x better than those clutches. Haha. At least you found the smoking gun.

The ATRA pages are full of great information. I haven’t seen the one you posted. Thanks!!

They looked great when I got the trans… but I don’t remember if I spec’d C5 correctly on top of wrong output shaft on top of unproven 2011+ valve body.

On TOP of that, I had a couple stupid days where I was showing off my tune and well… burning some rubber…

All in all, my $1k F up.

Oh well, while I’m in there, I will be installing a used Goerend flex plate from eBay and replacing my leaky rear main…
