Service intervals and what oil you using?

Hey guys just bought another cummins.

1991 d250 5 speed. All factory.

Just a few questions from you guys on what you use for oil and maintenance intervals.

5000kms (3000miles) 12quarts oil change with filter... Amsoil? Lucas? 5w40? 15w40? 0w40?

Interval for fuel filter?? Also how to change it properly because I've heard it's really easy to lose prime...

Getrag oil change?

Just curious what you guys are doin for intervals and opinions on oil.

I got a 2011.5 6.7 and that thing I run amsoil front to back and I'm crazy about maintenance on the dot but this old 12v leaks and sweats so I don't want to be leaking amsoil all over the place. Or paying that much for oil changes every 5000km.

I use Delo 15W40 for engine oil with a Fleetguard filter.

Fuel filter, Fleetguard. Change it annually. Fill up the filter as far as you can with fuel, while still being able to put it on, and start the truck.

Getrag, I don't know. I do know you're supposed to overfill it, though. If you just do the factory recommendation it starves one of the bearings.

oh really? good to know. Would it be smart to cycle the ignition for 3-5 seconds a few times to prime when changing fuel filter?

Like you im an Amsoil fanatic and have every fluid in truck with their precious stuff. Engine oil is 10-15-40 and im going 25k before a change now. I keep being told I can go further but to me even 25k is extremely hard to swallow!

Oh in my 2011 im only going 10k for every engine oil change but I figure i can run versel every 5k in my 1991. Not sure how much longer I can go than that. I feel like the oil is breaking down faster in that old thing.

I use the walmart 15w40, and fuel filter gets changed ever year, give or take a few months. Never had an issue!

I use Rotella 40wt.

Wix oil filter

Wix fuel filter

Wix coolant filter

And I change it about every 3000 to 4000 Miles.

Jim

What aftermarket coolant filter set up did you go with?

Valvoline premium blue or Delo 15w40.
Fleet guard oil filter, change at 6000.
Oil analysis folks told me I'm wasting money and to go till 8000.

Fleet guard fuel filter every other oil change.

I dont know, goes to the oil comparison thread for me. If you hit the first link in that thread It goes to the original comparison site and shows other data.

10,000mile oil changes with conventional 15w40 Rotella T and Fleetguard oil filter # LF3894 (better filtration specs than the standard Fleetguard filter for 1st gens). I do oil sampling with Blackstone Laboratories.

Changing the oil before the factory 6000mile spec is simply wasteful (and pointless) outside of some sort of special extenuating circumstance. Using a single weight oil makes about as much sense unless you live where it is always 80+ degrees, other than some sort of special situation...

Maybe ill try for 10,000kms then with a fleetguard. 20,000kms with fuel filter...

If I could find the delo 400 MG I would definetly use it but I havnt seen it listed anywhere. As far the the new delo (LE), its designed for newer diesels. But if that list is right then its still good but one of the comments mentions that test, although it shows an LE bottle, has the stats of the older multi-grade oil

I use Delo 15w40 or Delvac. When I first got this pickup, the kid that had it before me ran it out of oil. I'm assuming he did anyway...:spank: Either that or he tried to extend his "interval" to 20k between changes by switching to Amsoil. I change mine every time I find cheap oil. I don't use Amsoil because it's expensive. Simple as that. Don't know about you guys but I don't find expensive body wash, so I can go without showing for 3 weeks.

Its good to know that its ok to run 5000 or more on an oil change. 9297oldram, I like your practice of changing the filter between changes.

Have you ever open an old filter up to see how it looked? Just curious

It's a special filter that super filters the oil and I get the oil from the extra port on top of the oil filter adapter on the engine. After it filters it it goes into the crankcase.
