Propane CAN be used for mileage, but unless you have a cheap supply, it's going to almost equal out in time. As a power adder, it's a bad idea. That being said, I have a propane kit you can have for relatively cheap. Just needs some cleaning.
so whats it take to hook it up? and is it good for the engine?
it doesn't hurt the power right? otherwise whats it good for if the mileage isnt helped much?
Propane was good for power before everyone realized how dangerous it could be. It will definitely improve your mileage and increase power, but like I say, it's dangerous, and filling the propane tank can cost as much as a tank of diesel in some places. Try it out, it might work for you if you get it dialed in right.
I've heard it can have a cleaning effect on the engine, probably for the same reason it can blow headgaskets. This thread is the first place I've heard about the HG popping characteristics, but I have used propane and think it did have some cleaning effect. I didn't notice any MPG change but it would definitely idle rougher. Although I had a pretty basic setup.
I used a 20 lb propane tank with a simple regulator set at about 60 and a needle valve to adjust the flow. The problem is that you have to remember to open the tank after you start the truck and before you shut it down. Or you'll get an intake system full of non-oxygenated gas and it won't start until it has pumped oxygen in.
HI, ill be interested in getting that propane kit off of you if your interested in selling it.
please give me a call my names Joe 76-340-2505
