OBD2 Readiness codes - won't pass smog

So I reinstalled the stock exhaust, set it back to stock, removed the mini maxx, brought it to the smog shop here in CA and failed due to readiness codes. Searched and found out about the drive cycles and such. Ended up bringing it to the dealer. The dealer reflashed the PCM to TSB 18-001-13. I've since driven over 650 miles in various driving conditions and still have two readiness codes indicting "incomplete": NOx Treat Mont and PM Filter Mon.

Please help, I don't know what else to do. :S: Smog is due by the end of the month and started this process several weeks ago.

Well took a 700 mile round trip to the coast and back over the long weekend and when I got back I hooked it up to the OBDII reader and I finally got a green light. I still one more monitor that hasn't ran yet but I think it will still pass smog now. Have a day off work on Friday and will take it to the smog shop then.

Pretty sure I must have a record here 2700 miles in total in order for all but one of my monitors to run. :party018:

It seems to be a bit of a crap shoot. Mine took 2700 miles to finally get all the monitors to run while others drove 20 miles and passed with no prob. Go back to stock early when you know your smog is due and buy yourself a OBDII scan tool so you can see when the monitors have reset.

Auto link AL319 made by Autel - I purchased it from JBtoolsales.com for 50 bucks

Sounds like you got it covered then! Hopefully your one of the lucky ones that can set back to stock and drive it right into the smog shop! Good luck

Here's what happened:

Plugged the EGR back in, drove 500 miserable miles with crap MPG, OBDII still said "vehicle not ready for emissions testing," brought it in for smog, and passed. Still had Banks Automind Supersport tune on the truck, no flash necessary. Might be just a lucky guy I don't know.

I finally got all mine to reset by taking a longer trip, hour plus in each direction. I drive 30 miles to work and that was not enough to have every sensor re set.

If you start having trouble find the TSB bulletins for your truck. They were some help to me.

With tags expired since Oct, 6000 miles of driving with no reset on 3 sensors, Dodge finally acknowledged there is nothing wrong with truck and they have no answer for why they are not cycling. Had apt with Smog Referee yesterday, after multiple phone calls, emailing pics he decided he will grant me a two yr exemption. Quite the ordeal.

How much longer before the rest of the country gets the smog regs we have in Cal? You know cal is the leader.

Hi , I'm new to posting and didn't know if the proper etiquitte is to tag onto an old post or to start a new one.

I dealt with the smog/system monitor ready issue this week. I wanted to share my experience just to keep things recent, so others who are researching could have confidence. We don't deal with smog regularly and it seems to change often which can make it tricky.

I returned my 2012 Ram 2500 6.7L back to stock, ( removed turbo back exhaust , uninstalled h&s tune). I knew I had to drive the truck a little so it could learn. Over the course of couple days I made a quick trip to my parents down the freeway, about 20 miles each direction ranging 65-75mph. And maybe another 15-20 miles of city stoplight to stoplight driving around town. I hadn't read about drive cycles at this point.

Three days after returning to stock, I went to the local Star Cert Smog Station. The Tech didn’t bother to smog the truck and told me to drive a few more days since it still had 2 monitors incomplete.

I scanned the truck and hca and htr monitors came up as incomplete. I believe it is the heated 02 and heated catalyst , both pertaining to the regen cycles from what I read on the drive cycle link someone posted.

I dreaded the thought of having to drive hundreds of miles (from what I read on these forums) for the regens and numerous DeN0x/S0x cycles to run , so I called around to several smog shops explaining to them what I read on here. They all denied me, I don't think they bothered to listen. Once they heard monitor not ready they cut me off.

Long story short, I gathered all the info I read on here and a few other posts and had to convince the original tech just to run the truck and hope for the best. It PASSED.

Its a shame that even experts aren’t able to keep up , and are turning away passable trucks. It makes me wonder what the guys are doing that aren’t taking it upon themselves to do their own research on sites like cumminsforum.

Anyway, Thanks to all the previous posters. You helped me out. What a pain in the butt, but i guess I'm really just out the quarter tank of gas I wasted trying the damn drive cycle. I gave up after realizing how many miles I was going to drive to initiate the regens.

Here are a few links from this thread and a few others I found. The site won't allow me to use html since i don't have any posts yet.

When i had trouble getting my '13 smoked here in SD the shop told me diesels could have 2 monitors incomplete. Gas vehicles are only allowed 1 incomplete monitor, so if you have 2 open you should be good to go
