Nozzle Upgrade Question

I know its coming and yes I did search the forums for the information. There is a ton of information on which ones everyone should use and even a couple of good write ups on how to do it. My question is simply can you tell a big difference while you are driving around everyday or is this for guys that are pulling sleds and launching hard at the track? Not everyone has a sack of cash to do upgrades so we have to pick what is good bang for the buck. I have the deletes and running a Smarty Me. I will be doing the head studs in the near future and of course would like to tear the motor apart as little as possible so whatever I'm going to do will need to happen then.

I am not looking to drag race or pull a sled but when I push the skinny pedal I want to feel like I put the money in the right place. I already have traction issues at launch so what I am looking for is acceleration from 25-95.

A larger injector nozzle means more fuel for a given set amount of time the injector is open. More fuel usually means more horsepower, unless you reach the limits of other parts. Turbo and CP3 for example.

Getting bigger injectors usually is the step once you have maxed out your duration and cannot hold the injector open any longer, thus a bigger injector is the only option to getting more fuel in the cylinder in a period of time.

In most cases the stock injectors at max safe duration (time injector is open) is enough to exceed the ability of the stock HE351VE turbo. So without a turbo upgrade I dont see a large benefit from injectors in your case.

Does this answer your question?

This is exactly what I was looking for. What turbo upgrade do you recommend? I will do some research but honestly a lot of the things I read on here is in code and/or Greek to me. What I have read thus far seems to indicate a need for changing to a 2nd Gen manifold in order to upgrade the turbo. I'm looking for as close to plug and play as possible.

Also with an upgraded turbo will I have to change to custom tunes? If I have a Smarty Jr already on the hot tune but want more, is there any way to obtain custom tunes with that or will I have to change to a different tuner as well?

Bigger injectors (to me) have a lot better mid range and drivability vs stock injectors, my favorite setup for DD is 45%-65% nozzles on stock bodies. We can also squeeze about 50 more ponies out of an already maxxed out setup with a larger nozzle vs stock because we can pull the duration back and get the fuel in a lot more efficiently.

Bang for the buck, have your local shop send your nozzles off to Extrude Hone to have them punched out, next step up would be a nozzle purchase, I've had good luck with the smaller nozzles from II on DD trucks but the nozzles in my race truck are Bosch Motorsports.

What is the rule of thumb for converting % to HP - different manufacturers list them differently. IE: what HP injector would equate to the 45% - 65% injector you referenced?

I have II 100hp nozzles now with my stock pump. I have been very impressed with this set up so far. Of course I would love a better Cp3 or twins but for daily driving with my 2nd 467.7 I am happy with how it performs.

Will I upgrade absolutely! Do I need to for daily driving no.

Close to plug and play is not an option with our setups UNLESS, you send your turbo out to fleece and get there drop in wheels to make it support more HP etc. But that is almost more for just a turbo than a full 2nd gen kit so its not really bank acct efficient, nor my route if I was upgrading. I would do a 2nd gen kit from fleece, stainless, or source and get it from a vendor on this forum for best price. Turbo would be a s464 or s467 if it were me and some GDP torker 75or100hp nozzles would be perfect. Pump would need some love as well but depending on what the goals are you could go stroker or ats dual pumps. Then again you want plug and play and a more stock look so you migut just want to invest in a h&s product with custom tunes and upgrade nozzles still if you want with some 50s or 75s and call it done.

You have a great setup there samson6.7. How was the g56 swap?! Did you run into any issues while doing it? How is your setup on stock fuel and nozzles? Towing? Also I bet its a little easier to control and keep the turbo lit with a manual but I wonder how well it does with a auto?

Thanks man, only issues with the auto to manual, was the driveshafts fitment. No biggie though!

The setup works great for stock fueling. I dd the truck to work, and it feels like a stock truck around town. I don't tow with this truck, but wouldn't see it being an issue really. (Providing you not hauling a d10 dozer lol) The egt's hover around 5-600 just crushing at about 60mph, and haven't seen it go beyond 1100 at full tilt. With the manual, if there is a tiny bit of lag down low, I don't even notice it upshifting..

For anyone considering the second gen swap with the 467, and stock fueling, GO FOR IT! You won't be disappointed lol

You could do more aggressive tuning and leave your injectors stock. A water/meth system will also reduce regens (although I see you have plans for that already) and get a little more power and better MPG

So coming from a guy wanting to eventually do the source s467 swap but until then wants to do like II dragonflys or something is it worth it? Will I see a difference? I myself have been wanting to do nozzles as well.
