So I dunno how many of you have these type of neighbors but heres the story.

I have a neighbor across the alley.

she is eccentric...

anyway all saturday I have been working on my car. ( got it started btw also after the accident it wouldnt start)

I also updated it from speed density to a mass air setup.

(got a mass air meter from vortech and a a9p computer for like 200 bucks and the harness has a mass air connection)

car has a surging idle issue now. so it will go from... 500-1500 RPM as the car is trying to relearn base idle but I also think I have a vacuum leak and a timing issue amongst other things.

So while it surges it is very rich so this woman across the street phones and leaves a message

"Hi this is Gerry across the alley and someone must be angry or something with your son as they are outside revving there engine and have been doing this for the past three hours straight its very smoky and its coming in my bedroom window and I can't breathe" its 8 when she phoned I got the car started at 6:30.

and I only had the car running for 5 minute intervals. to check various lines and valves and sensors and knock em out accordingly due to process of elimination.

So today I went out to try something out fired it up and she was standing there with her window wide open and looking at me.

Last time I checked I had from 7am to 11pm to do whatever the hell I wanted as far as noise is concerned.

and if the smoke bothers you.. close your window its cold today and also MIND YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS.

I have two garages and I am a mechanic... so yes I loves working on stuff at home. However my new neighbour across the alley has parked three dead vehicles in the alley. Now it is a total eyesore. Really pisses me off. Would I be an a** if I called bylaw?

As for your Mustang... you are right, you have the right to run that sucker all day long. Never hurts to be nice to the neighbours though.

Jordan,

The stock 5.0L harmonic balancer is degreed. 10* BTDC initial timing is fine, mark the balancer with some white paint or chalk.
The timing pointer is on the passenger side. #1 cylinder is the front cylinder on the passenger side.

Pull the "spout" connector on the harness right near the distributor. This connector loopback plug disables the ECM from advancing the timing.

Loosen the distributor until the pointer is pointing at 10* with the timing light flashing.

With the "spout" connector still out, rev the engine. The timing marks should not wander very much.
This tells you that the timing chain, the distributor bushings & the electronics in the distributor is stable.

Turn the car off, replug the spout connector.

Now you still have to set the idle speed. The throttle screw should not touch the thottle.
The ECM thru that idle air bypass controls the idle speed.
The TPS should be set at 0.95V or so at idle, key off.

The mass air conversion is a great idea. A9P is an automatic trans ECM but should work fine if your car is a manual trans too.

Is your check engine light connected or working in the dash? If not, & for conversions, some guys connect a homemade LED light under the dash.
The check engine light is your only "window" into the ECM since the 5.0L ECM is pre-ODB.

Tons of info on the Mustang forums as I'm sure you're already aware.

I hope this helps..Joe

hey jordan dont feel bad i have a neibour who lives next door and every time i fire up the monte (open headers its a drag car ) she either phones here and complains or she calls the cops if she happens to be outside when i do this she runs and hides inside crazy old bat

I wouldnt mind her if she just complained about noise.

she scares me the one day we left the garage door open all day and she phoned my mom as soon as she walked in the door and said "the garage door is open but don't worry I have watched it all day no one has gone in there, and your power bill is gonna be horrible you left your bathroom light on" scary eh?

That mustang does not have the plastic intake by chance does it? Just went thru this with my ford excape, plastic intake has so many leaks at the seams its not funny, cause a CEL and surging 500-1200rpm, I poured water over the intake...sure enough engine ran rough and you could hear it sucking, removed the intake and as a temp measure I sealed the seams with RTV... its a backwards repair, that was 3wks ago once it starts doing it again I'll replace the manifold, I never priced it but I'd bet I'll need my wheel barrel to carry in the cash to the Ford dealer..

nope 5.0 liter intake is metal but I see signs of blown gaskets through out the motor. I took the hood off today as well as the CAI and behind the engine is SOAKED in oil.

Pulled a plug out and its so damn carboned up its gross. not to mention its a cheap gimmicky knock off spark plug.

This thread is funny. You are complaining about your neighbor complaining. Ironic no??? At least she has a good reason... smoke and lots of noise. No doubt she is on some forum for nutty old ladies complaining about her neighbor (you).

That's hilarious!

I suspect the entire fabric of civilized society would completely disintegrate if there were no little old ladies complaining! And yes, I have one too across the street. Margaret. You should offer to shovel her walk, that often helps.

#27 ·
It's a fact of life people will disagree with you. Grow a backbone and move on!

You want peace? Bake her a pie and walk over and explain the situation to her. Offer to shovel her walks as said above or another small favour. You scratch her back and she'll scratch yours.

So am I a jerk then for wanting my neighbour to do something about the three POS rusting in the alley behind my house? I don't know them and they are not making any noise or anything. Just the cars back there look like crap. I don't live in the nicest neighbourhood but I don't want it to become a dive.

BTW none of my neighbours have complained about the straight pipes on my 1100 :headbang::headbang:

I am sure I am not their favorite but I do snow blow my immediate neighbors back lane to their garbage cans

How kind of you! You are certainly not a jerk. There are bylaws in place to ensure that, for example, land uses are appropriate in residential areas. A "junkyard" is not one of those uses. The problem is filing a complaint - you cannot do it anonymously as far as I know, and the issue is once these knuckleheads find out who called the bylaw officer they may seek some kind of retribution. They may not very respectful people in the first place. I have a similar issue with a neighbor across the back alley who burns GARBAGE every other day in their fire pit during the summer months. Also against municipal bylaw. It stinks and it is just not healthy, especially for kids. But they are total jackasses, and I know they will make my life "problemmatic" if I call it in. Maybe they will die off from cancer or something with all that sh!t they are breathing in.

hey oi kiss my neibours cause i know my car is loud but what can you do you gotta tune it some how not one of my neibours on my block have to shovel it snows im out at 6 in the morning blade on quad and go around the block do the front street and the back alley and ive been doing this for 3 yrs now i figure if she calls this year next winter ill pile alll the snow on her sidewalk lol

Lol I've had my neighbors complain before about my truck, one and old lady yes, she politely informed me my truck was very annoying. Another time I had a buddy come out on his balcony and yell at me for idling my truck for fifteen or so minutes on a cold morning, and that it was pissing everybody off. So yeah, if your vehicle is loud, people aren't gonna like it. Best suggestion would be to make peace with the woman, if she is still a crazy wingbat then just ignore her and keep living your life, just make sure you know all the bylaws so you can't get in trouble. lol.

the fact she watched my house all day knew when my mom got home and also informed her the bathroom light was on all day....

Yeah shes a few cans (5) short of a six pack.

either way I was not reving my engine I was not smoking excessivly and if it was so ****** smoky why do you have your bedroom wide open at -10 close the damn window. the fact she had it open makes me think she did it just to have one more thing to ****** about. :banghead:

This world would be a better place if stupidity hurt.
