Newbie Radio Bezel Question...

Hello Folks,

I am new to owning trucks and new to this forum. I recently purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Megacab 6.7L.
This was the Laramie with a REC nav radio with uconnect and VES DVD player from the factory. 6 speed automatic transmission.

I LOVE THIS TRUCK!

And now the question: I will probably buy an ALLGIG device so that I can install an aftermarket backup camera for the vehicle and my trailer. However, I cannot figure out how to remove the radio bezel. I do not have the regular cup holder version. I have no "middle seat" on the front, but have a storage unit on the seat, as well as additional storage and cupholders built onto the floor where a middle passengers legs would go. This is all stock. The attached picture shows exactly what I have.

Any help on how to get the radio bezel off would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon

Im pretty sure its all just plastic clips. I was worried about mine too when I changed my stocker for the 6disc mp3. All i did was get a plastic hook tool and pry at the corners. It should be the same for you even though i have a front bench. Its a little tough the first time but it should come/unclip right out, obviously trying to pull the uppercorners and not scratching it is key and is a task but im sure youll get it. good luck:thumbsup:

I notice you have "Deletes Done" . Is there a post that summarizes the deletes somewhere? I already saw something about the "EGF" unplug...

Thanks for the help.

There are many many threads that relate to the deletes. Search the 6.7 section for DPF delete or EGR Delete.

I just pulled mine off a couple weeks ago to put an aftermarket head unit in. There are provisions for 2 screws that would hold it on vertically from the bottom up, just below the buttons for the seats, engine brake and such, but mine had no screws. I found it easiest to start from the right bottom corner, and you pretty mush just pull. Make sure everything is warm though, if it's cooler in your area. It's pretty easy.

it's all pressure fit in except two screws in the bottom. You need to remove the cup holder area and take the screws out then it will just pull of. I reinstalled mine without those two screws because they are a pain in the but to get to.

I had mine off the other day when I did the automatic exhaust brake switch mod. I don't have any pictures of it coming off, but I do have some of it off. They're on my page (sig) in the auto exhaust brake writeup on the mods page. It might help you out a little. I started form the bottom right corner and popped it off. On my truck there were no screws, only those push connectors.

There are supposed to be screws in there, maybe someone took yours out and didn't replace them

odd...maybe you got screwed

sorry I couldn't help myself.

well maybe they changed the design and dropped the two extra screws. As I said, I put mine back in without them. They are totally useless and only make it more of a pain in the butt when you want to take the bezel off.

for the future generations...

Well, as you all point out, there were no screws holding it in, just clips. Here are some pics for future newbies:

1st, I bought a nylon trim tool kit at Harbor Freight for $4.99, it comes with 6 trim tools:

I used the little mini prybar tool starting at the lower passenger corner, there is a very small tab there where you can place the corner of the prybar:

Then I just worked it around until it snapped off. Here is how it looks behind the scenes:

and a view of the connectors looking from the top down:

There are 4 screws that hold the REC radio in place. I removed them to look at the back (to see if the lockpick is compatible--It is ...yeah baby!)

I'll post pics of the upcoming install of my new BullyDog backup sensor system and Backup camera into the lockpick. Stay tuned.
